Is the Birmingham Bowl the same as the GMAC Bowl? I assume it is.

I was speaking with a buddy of mine who lives in Birmingham today and he brought up the possibility of SMU playing in the GMAC Bowl...provided, of course, that the Mustangs become bowl eligible with enough 'W's. His boss is on the GMAC Bowl Selection Committee so he's watching things here in Dallas closely.

I mentioned that SMU has to get enough fans in Ford Stadium this year to justify a bowl bid (along with the 'W's). My friend said that what SMU has to let any bowl committee know is that the fans who will come have deep pockets and that they'll spend their $$$ there like mad...at the restaurants, at the hotels, at the clubs, etc.

Per their respective websites, the GMAC bowl is Jan. 7th in Mobile on ESPN and the B'ham bowl is Dec. 23rd in...well, Birmingham. So I'd say they are different.

Thanks, RGV. No matter which bowl game SMU goes to, I'll be there!

I say Liberty because it is the most prestigious of the lot in my opinion, but this whole thread has probably jinxed us.

Any interest in the possible matchup with TCU in the Ft. Worth Bowl. Isn't it a Mountain West opponent?
