McIllhenny played his role better as a true freshman than Willis has played as a rdshirt freshman. McIllhenny didn't play CreamPuff U. McIllhenny's first start was against undefeated No. 2 ranked University of Texas in Austin and he produced one of SMU's greatest victories in his first start. Throw in the fact that the SMU offense had to be completely redesigned for the switch between the passing Mike Ford to the option style of McIllhenney during an off-week. He didn't have spring practice to learn the offense. Willis was baffled in his first two games with an extra redshirt year in hand and has yet to beat a team in the Top 100 of the Sagarin ratings.

The McIlhenny/Willis comparison is apples and oranges, considering the offense they ran and the competition they faced. However, Willis is about as good a QB as SMU can hope to have these days, and I don't think anybody can dispute that.
