Three Putt,
I agree Dickey early on had to play body bag type games. Look at the last few years. We've lost to the likes of La Tech, Memphis, SMiss Tulsa, Akron, etc etc. DD never recruited well enough in the bowl years to restock and get us to the next level

I hate to be the the bearer of bad news, but all 5 schools you mentioned are football POWERS compared to NTSU.

How about the UNT alum who was quoted in the DMN today saying he may not give any more money to the school after the way it treated Dickey?

If there's one thing schools understand, it's $$$$$$$.

Not that the inmates run the asylum or anything, but you might want to clue your major donors in that you are thinking of making a coaching change.

Does anybody think that any important SMU athletics decision has caught Ford, Hunt or Sewel completely off guard?

The funniest part:

McIngvale said he made his contribution largely because of his friendship with Dickey. UNT's practice field is to be named after McIngvale, who said he will ask for it to be named after Dickey.

Visiting guy: "Nice new practice field. Who's it named after?"
NTSU guy: "The coach we fired last year."

This is sad for Dickey and UNT (not that I am a fan). Who are they going to get to replace him? Todd Dodge?!! I think not!!! He was the best they have had in a while and now, when he is down and out, they kick him!!

Crappy treatment from a crappy program!
Sports, and all that implies.

No need to run scoreboard on you guys thanks to those above

The programs listed are not football powers by any stretch. I just hate the logic of he was expected to play 5 big 12 teams a year blah blah. All those teams are winnable games

We want more the program than to be the best of the worst and winning 4 Conf Champs and 1 bowl should have helped in recruiting. It didn't

We may look back on it as the best we ever were but we are believing that there is something better out there.

THe donor we lost was going bye bye whenever Dickey left. He was a donor for him not the school

Not a true/fan donor anyway, Whats best for the program is a new coach

Green, that might be true (new coach best thing for UNT), but the way he was ousted . . . not the best treatment for a coach that brought you those 4 conf champs and a bowl victory . . . is it?

I think the point (and perception) is that the Sun Belt = D1AA. (There's a reason no one wants to be in that conference, ya know.) And, yes, that means SMU got beat by a quasi-D1AA team this year. I still smell that loss.

Bag the SunBelt all you want I guess. It is the worst Conf in the country

However we beat you guys

ArkState beat Memphis

ULaLa beat Houston

Its not as bad as you let on.

That being said. Dickey wasn't happy at NT even when we were winning. He lost control of the program. From the outside looking in it looks like we screwed him. He has been the worst ambassador for the school. Any press we get he was taking the chance to tell folks how bad he had up here

He thought he was on his way to a better mid-major or BCS coaching gig and he got lazy.

To the people saying we pissed off the donor. If Dickey left for a HC somewhere else the money was going with him. Simple as that.

Never let donors hold the program hostage

Yeah, with all of those guys lining up in Denton to donate seven figure sums to the NTSU athletic department, y'all will never miss him.
