speaking of Secret Service-I was eating at Goff's on Saturday and Laura Bush and entourage were there. The place was absolutely PACKED-you are on to something.

Why would ND want to play Baylor instead of SMU? As St.L said, we are a .500 team in a mid-major conference, Baylor is a sub .500 team in a BCS conference. RPI would be virtually identical and theoretically, they would have a better chance of winning against us. Add to that the name recognition and dusting off the memories of that classic game in days gone by when both programs were at the pinnacle of success. That ought to be marketable. If NBC couldn't promo that game, how do you expect them to promo Baylor vs. ND? I'd would bet that ND-SMU would get a considerably higher TV rating than ND-Baylor. And isn't that what these games are really about?

Notre Dame at Jerry World? Nah...we'll take NTSU at Ford.

Wouldn't we solve Baylor's problem for them? It would be a ND HOME game...so we don't lose anything from Ford...and ND gets to keep it on NBC.
You're absolutely right, RGV Pony, on both counts. The claim that he'd rather not play the ND game in JerryWorld is an admission that ND didn't have any interest. More than that, we should GLADLY play them in JerryWorld. Call it an ND home game. Put it on NBC. Listen to that annoying-as-hell fight song all day .... and you'd have thousands and thousands of people seeing SMU in person and on TV for the first time. Put the game on NBC with the only agreement being that we get to run one of those "This is SMU" commercials in the middle of the first and third quarter. Great advertising for the school, the athletic department and the football program.

I've always thought Steve-O's dream is to one day be AD at his alma mater, that turning SMU into a successful (and profitable) athletic department would be something no other candidate could claim on a résumé. Sounds like Notre Dame isn't as enamored with him if they didn't even talk to him before getting in bed with Baylor High.

Actually, Blog I wasn't drinking, I was thinking like an NBC executive might think which of course means they probably all drink heavily. "Hmm, ND v. Baylor, so what. ND v. SMU wasn't there like a classic game between those two schools with like Doak Walker and George Gipp? Was that the game where Gipp got hurt and Knute Rockne made his famous speech? None of the above are true, but that's what an executive might think. He would think we could market this. Add in Willis as an up and coming young QB and you can run promos that might garner a pretty good share and if the game stayed close, you'd get a great share. Sorry Blog, but for marketing, SMU is sitll a bigger name nationally than Baylor.

Whoever the person is that she comes to see in HP/UP, she is pretty consistent in her showing up at Goff's. I like their burgers too. :D

I agree with EastStang. ND-SMU would be marketable.
