re: "Winning and graduating players has only been our goal since
Orsini got here? Do tell, what was our goal prior to that?"

This is another attempt for you to change the subject and this
should be in a different thread.....but

I think when an institution has someone in charge of the ship like
Jim Copeland.... it speaks volumes about what it's intentions are.

I believe our goals have been to run a clean program
first and if wins happened then all the better.

With the hiring of Orsini I think the message has changed
to "we are going to win and graduate players".

And last year we came within one game / one yard of going
to a bowl.

I think Orsini is not going to accept any more excuses and
will not tolerate SMU not being a competive football team as
others have in the past.

The student in question has decided to transfer, btw. We'll see what becomes of him.

I_P_S, I think we continue to talk around each other. I'll admit, I'll never see things exactly the way you do and vice versa, but I'm cool with that. Hopefully both my teams will continue to win and their players will continue (or start?) to represent their University in a manner in which I can be proud of.

Guys, I'm sorry I am such a bad SMU fan, but you'll just have to learn to tolerate me come September because I'll be out there.

Longhorn68 I am happy to see you supporting the
Mustangs and you are a credit to the Longhorn Nation.

Again if more of the Longhorn fans were like you
I would have alot less dislike for the Horns.

"Guys, I'm sorry I am such a bad SMU fan"

Bad?

Not "bad" just negative.

But at work half the office are "half empty types"
and the other half are "half full types".

I can't help it....I think I got my
"always find a silver lining"
from my Mom.

"but you'll just have to learn to tolerate me

Excellent!
Hopefully soon you'll have less to complain about!

Here is what I do not understand. Wouldn't we have welcomed any of these UT "thugs" to our team had they committed to SMU? Would they have turned out differently? I do not know. The point that I see being made is not anti SMU but maintaining a sense of equality when stating your beliefs. We have had our share of baddies. We have got an All American from SMU in prison in Arkansas for molesting his students while he had a job as a teacher. That means he graduated but still went bad. Another was recently arrested for beating up his girl friend. Another was a drug user and dealer that chose to turn in his school for cheating.

My thoughts are more in line with what someone stated earlier. The higher profile the athlete, the more "self confident" he becomes and becomes more and more invulnerable in his mind. Teenagers already have this built in but take a teenager and put the weight of a National Championship on his shoulders and go from there. I do not think Mack Brown looks for criminals to play for him.

I have no love for UT, but I do not see the good in reveling in their problems when we have and will have many of the same over the course of time.

My goodness, we are hoping and praying to make it to 6-6 in a year that has 50 million bowl tie-ins in our conference so we can play a game after Thanksgiving weekend. Lets worry about that for a change.

As a side note, Jt attends the games and is happy when we win and sad when we lose. He just does not celebrate when a Longhorn is arrested. Nor do I. There are enough young kids going bad today as it is. Lets not make it a cause for celebration and excitment.

It ain't just U.T., folks...it even happens in the Big Sky country. Just putting it into perspective.

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) -- Rob Ash, a 27-year coaching veteran who plans to emphasize academic success, became Montana State's 31st football coach Monday.

Ash takes over for Mike Kramer, who was fired on May 18 after the arrest of a fifth current or former player within a year. Four face drug charges and a former player faces a murder charge.

And the folks that think Florida (are you kidding - FLORIDA?) ND, TCU Penn State etc.. are paragons for the student athlete are living in la la land.

They recruit and graduate mostly idiots because they have created fake majors to park their players for four yrs so they can show progress toward a degree. And even with that low bar, they still have to pay legions of tutors to keep thier "athletes" in school until their eligibility runs out.

I'm just saying we should do the same and join them or quit. Our guys are better students only becasue we can't get that level of athlete (yet).

There are signs someone has figured this out and we are moving this direction - its about time because nobody has achieved top 50 status any other way.

To answer your question....no I doubt many of these "parade of thugs" getting arrested in Austin would be welcomed at SMU.

Would you welcome someone breaking into apartments, caught with pounds of weed in their vehicle, burglary of multiple vehicles, carrying illegal weapons into your company or workplace because they "performed well" in the office?

Do also think it just a coincidence that this thuggery and these pathetic graduation rates are happening at UT and not at Penn State, ND, and other Top 25 programs.

How come ND, Penn State, Clemson, Florida, and other top programs are graduating players and also winning?

Someone says "well those schools are tutoring and/or offer easy degrees"...well obviously Texas offers their morons easy degrees and/or tutoring too......but they STILL CAN'T GRADUATE!

You seem to also equate the Texas Longhorn player police blotter with the SMU player police blotter.

Can you provide specific examples in recent years of crimes SMU players have committed while playing at SMU that come close in scope to the total sum of specific documented criminal behaviors I have sourced and provided on UT players during their stay at Longhorn U. carrying pounds of marijuana in their vehicle, breaking into apartments and drug possession, carrying illegal weapons and weed that when deputies approached the vehicle at 2:50AM they saw the UT player who was sitting in the back seat with his hand on a gun in his lap, others carrying drug paraphernalia, beating people senseless and then running and hiding from the police in a car trunk at 3AM, one player charged with multiple vehicle burglary and another charged with DWI all within the same two week period?

As far as "rejoicing"....it is more exposing a program for what it really is and exposing that many universities are winning and graduating their players as opposed to selling their souls to win. I think it is noteworthy to be reminded when we see these stories that there are many other programs around the country that SMU should try to replicate instead of the one in Austin.
