Thanks for the laugh, Dwan. You really think the search committee is going to be anything but a rubber stamp for the AD's choice?

Search committees are just P.R. so that more people can feel like they are involved in the process. It's a one-man search committee - Orsini - who will do the real interviewing. Big Guns like Dr. Turner and Gerald Ford will sign off on the choices before they bring the final candidate(s) before the search committee. Anything can happen, but most coaches would be foolish to go before a search committee if there's a chance of being rejected. If they do bring more than one coach before the search committee, there will be ample time for the second choice to announce that he's "pulled out."

As for SMUer, sorry to come down so harsh on you. I know you're just trying to help. You had the double-whammy of relying on an unreliable source (PCP/D Mag) and of submitting the name of a local high school coach.

And for you guys who call him a "4A coach" - get over it. HP is not run like some rural 4A program. They aren't running the Wing-T at HP and most college programs would envy HP's organization. And HP's real enrollment - not the fuzzy math that keeps it under the 5A cutoff - would put it in 5A, if that matters to you.

Still don't think Allen is anything but a courtesy interview, but SMU should be in the business of being courteous to well-respected high school coaches.

Of course they're not seriously looking at hiring him, but I wouldn't see the harm in an interview. As stated above, an interview is a 2 way street. It wouldn't hurt to talk to a former SMU player and try to gain some insight on Texas High School coaches. Maybe in 6-10 years from now, he is a hotshot assistant or head coach at another school, and he'll already have a nice relationship with Steve-O. You can laugh, but an interview wont hurt
