It might be Monday, but I'm going to go ahead and say that it will be Tuesday, the 27th at around 2pm.
I don't want to speculate too much, but just so that I have a guess on record...not saying that it will be the guy. I'll throw out the name Dan McCarney. His early record was rough, but he eventually made Iowa State semi-competitive in the Big XII.
"He was quoting the Bible, Revelations. 'Behold the pale horse.' The man who 'sat on him was Death... and Hell followed with him.'"
"You tell 'em I'm coming... and hell's coming with me!"

I wouldn't be surprised to see SMU end up with a guy like McCarney or that level. I think I prefer him to Kragthorpe-and many others. I think that is so funny how shallow many on this board are. Looking for the Big Names with the pretty records like Bowden or Coker who never had a challenge like SMU, never had the recruiting restrictions of a Gary Gibbs after Switzer's NCAA probation, never had to build a program up from its foundation like Gill or Dodge. There are so many qualities in a Coach that can be analyzed w/o the gaudy won/loss record. I call it the Magic Wand Doctrine. You can analze many things about how a program improves from say Year 1-5 or doesn't improve-and sometimes the things you look at are not bowls or championships. Look at how he builds his program, how he deals with obstacles and how he recruits-and ALWAYS analyze it with a 3-4 year window. The Coaches Hall of Fame is filled with Disasters in Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 and even Year 4. The Magic Wand Wing of the College Football Coaches Hall of Fame is quite small. Its shocking how shallow the anaysis of these factors is on this board.

For those of you who said Nov. 25...sorry. You lost.
For those of you who said Nov. 26 (today)...don't hold your breath...if there was going to be a news conference to announce the new hire, a media alert would have been issued to newsrooms by now announcing a time & place for it.

I hope SO names the new coach soon. Between getting back into the swing of things after Thanksgiving and this coaching search, I am having a hard time getting anything done at work.

I hope you work with a bunch of Aggie$. They'll be drowning their sorrows at lunch over this hire. I doubt any of them will return for the afternoon.

According to hubby, who works with a bunch of them, the spin is on. They are all convinced (as they were when Fran was hired) that this is the best coach for them. I predict this euphoria will last until after their 3rd game next season.

I work with a bunch of Gators and Noles. They think that SMU is that school in Hattiesburg, MS. I stopped correcting them a while ago.

At this point, I think anyone will be a WOW. "WOW, SMU finally hired someone!" Or, "WOW, I didn't think we would stoop so low after all the hype on this board!" Or, hopefully, "WOW, Orsini was able to land Bowden!" Etc.....
