Title IX has done more to destroy the quality of sports & education than anything outside our court system & tax code.

Any way, I just finished my donation in to the Diamond M Club. Thx for the heads up about it. Never heard of it till today.

Tried to donate too but it wouldn't accept it. Here is the Web-site.

Suggest that Ponyfans.com be a source of new support. Let's get the band back to 96+. They are the Hub of SMU Spirit, especially when it has lagged during our years in the desert.

Thanks, Diamond M

Question...Is the band the size that it is because they can't find more people to be in it? Or is there a certain number they like to keep it at? I just say this because a bigger band would be much more powerful on the field. I am a big USC fan as well and must say that the SMU band can't hold a candle to them. The Trojan Band or "Spirit of Troy" is almost military-like in their size and perfection. SMU has a great band, but I think increasing the size and synchronization of the movements would add to the overall improvement of the program.

The band takes everyone who wants to join. There just aren't a lot of people at SMU who are interested in doing it for a lot of reasons.

Thanks, NavyCrimson, for your donation and becoming a member of the DMC. :D :D :D At the moment, the band takes anyone who's interested. The limiting factor on quality players is scholarship money. The administration pony's up only so much, and the Diamond M Club tries to cover as much as the club can raise each year (usually 25K-30K). The club has a scholarship endowment fund that has reached $225K. We'd love to get this up to $2M. That would help to guarantee the life of the band and help quite a bit in getting the quality players everyone wants.

Have they had any campaigns in the past to reach this goal? ($2M)

By the way. I purchased two CD's while visting during Thanksgiving. I believe they're from the late 50's early 60's & they're fantastic!!! That Dr. Irving Dreibrodt was unbelievable!!!

Right now, the big campaign has been raising money for a new band hall. This is being spearheaded by the Band Partnership. A new band hall has priority right now since the current one is going to be bulldozed under when Perkins Natatorium is razed sometime in '08-'09. NavyCrimson, do you have any interest in heading up a scholarship campaign for the Mustang Band?

Might be some sort of lock out on your system. You can get information or make an email donation with Tommy Tucker, the assistant band director at [email protected]

Thanks for your interest and support.
Just send 'da money.

Lord - I hope not!!! Those uni's are one of the reasons that distinguish them from all the other look-a-like bands out there. Our's is truly a unique band.

On the subject of questions - why would the administration ever let the band drop down to so few member??? But then again, SMU has never been known for bold leadership, either. So sad.

Diamond - unfortunately, with my schedule, I couldn't never head up a scholarship drive. Plus I wouldn't have a clue on what to do. But I would be more than happy to give when the time comes.

Which one? There are only 25 or so uniforms.
Now that is funny!!! LOL

That is something I've never understood:

I can't think of a single person that would pick out a marching band uniform and think "that's a cool looking outfit" (and I mean the outfit by itself, not seeing it as a uniform for a marching band). I mean, they are all watered down versions of like an 1850's West Point uniform. YET, people are always quick to ask why the Mustang Band can't just dress like a 'real' marching band. It's not because the TCU/Baylor/OU/FSU uniforms just look so darn cool, it's just that the general population has some internal struggle with a marching band looking like anything other than a marching band. "Ugh, why the candy stripes, that's so silly...why not wear a plume and a sequined sash and tight overall type pants" Huh? I could understand if someone was like "why not wear abercrombie cargo pants and a metallica t-shirt", but arguing that dorky uniform B is dorky because it isn't enough like dorky uniform A doesn't make sense to me.
