As a loyal Redskins fan since birth, I will go on record with the following:
1) Not all Redskin fans thought he would be successful there, myself included. 2) Dan Snyder thought he would be successful and/or he wanted the big name hire because he is a media whore. 3) Dan Snyder is not only an idiot, he is also one of the main reasons why that franchise has not been very successful since the day he bought it. 4) Dan Snyder might be, just maybe, the anti-Christ. I can't say for sure, but all I am saying is that I have never seen Dan Snyder and the anti-Christ in the same room at the same time. Just putting 2 and 2 together.
I did not mean to digress. I could care less about Spurrier and the Redskins. My point is there are no assurances even when you hire the "big" coach early or late. Let's focus on the Ponies.
I got your point. I just hate Dan Snyder, so I chose to rant about him, that's all. Call it a hot button for me.

Congratulations on your longevity. Would you like a certificate or a flag flown over Dallas Hall to show what a great poster you are? You picked a name and I picked a name as well. I do not apologize for when I started posting. Stick to the subject, sir.
I made my point. What was your screen name last year and what will it be next year? Yes, thats says something about your backbone and credibility.

Your point is not valid. I have only had this name and will not change it. You are silly. Don't question my backbone becuase I disagree with your absurdness. We need change on this board because of people like you.

I've repentaned and apologized for some crazy posts. Have been an SMU fan for 40 yr.s. The new posters are here because SMU is now being talked about. SMU is coming back. I'm a new poster. It is time now. It is time.

I am frustrated but really not that bad of a guy i promise, so please tell me why i should not assume you are another in the long line of hit and run posters around here.

My point is why attack me because I am a new poster? Why jump to a conclusion that I am some phony who changes names when people get mad? why is your way the only way? Maybe you have 7 different names? Who knows? I don't care. I didn't even know about this board until this season. I am glad that I found it. But it is just as easy to read and not post with grief from folks like you. I am just trying to participate. I graduated from SMU in the 90s and am a proud alumni and support the Univerisity. Apparantly, I should have posted all of this before I graduated.

3) Recruits are defecting because SMU appears to have its head up its @ss.
4) We could have had one of SEVERAL, QUALIFIED, HIGH-PROFILE coaches MONTHS ago, which allows us to RECRUIT a class for 2008!!!!
It really amazes me just how many willing, koolaid drinking, blind pollyanna sheep we have on this board.
Regardless of who we hire, if it's not June Jones this has been a huge failure to some extent. We are the only school in the country that allows a coach to wait until the season and bowl ends to make a decision.
I could understand waiting on June Jones if Orsini at the very least had some type of verbal agreement with Steinberg(agent) that June wanted this job and WILL sign on the dotted line days after the Sugar bowl(waiting to announce out of respect for his current employer/players). To wait until the season & bowl ends to simply start any serious discussions is absolutely unacceptable.
I'm a very optomistic person but I'm having a Paul Johnson feeling about this one. If anyone needed JUCO help it was us, especially on defense and that opportunity is gone.

Details, details, and more details. I think it's a done deal. Just getting the details right.

I am all on board to wait as long as possible for the best coach.
But..... June Jones is the coaching hire equivelent of a Hail Mary pass for SMU. There is no reason for June to leave UH for SMU if the money is in the same ball park. My bet is that June is sitting in his Hawaii house fielding offers from Hawaii, SMU and others.
If SO didn't have a verbal deal prior to the Sugar Bowl, then to wait for JJ to come our way is where hope supercedes experience.
If we lose JJ and then hire some assistant coach that could have been hired in November - then we look like complete buffoons.

My only disagreement with you Pony81 is that I don't think Hawaii can come up with the funds to match SMU. If he stays at Hawaii, it's for personal reasons only, and not for the money.
Other than that, I think you are spot on.

No, not at all. SMU shot for the stars. We may get the moon. I think we will get the star. SO has an AP Coach of the year with Coker, and slimball, but good coach with Fran. sitting on the sidelines. I don't get some of these posters. SMU is in a win win position. We come out on top even if JJ stays at UH.
