forget it is right. the big 12 is perfectly happy to have those schools as dormats to provide gimmies in an otherwise tough league. question: how would smu add revenues (tv, attendance?) to the already massive income of that conference. exchange us for the worst of them and no impact. the mere suggestion is hubris. and its really mere.

I'm pretty sure we're not so high on the list of "Teams That Deserve a Stronger Conference" i guess im basing this on the fact that we used to play in the SWC conference
So did Rice, Houston and TCU....
But TCU has no desire to be in a competitive conference.

in any event this thread is not about whether we can or the merits of other schools over ours, the point is to consider who is the odd one out IF the right situation arises...im happy Baylor is getting the most love in the poll but ISU is a perennial doormat, why not them?

The only way the Big XII changes the formula is if there is a major conference realignment (i.e. Texas going to Pac 10, Missouri going to Big Ten, A&M going to SEC, etc.)

We'll go to the SEC before a&m does.
That place is so backwards...ugh
We called in 13th grade at my high school, no one ever really grows up there, they just stay in their little church group bible-study friend circle and start to worship a dog.
We've never lost the tailgate.

Any thought of SMU going to the Big 12 is laughable.
This isn't EA Sports NCAA Football.
SMU doesn't have the enrollment, nor does its market even support it. We could go 4 undefeated seasons in a row, and we might merit a speculative conversation between Big 12 administrators over a beer, but nothing else.
But that doesn't mean we can't wish. And I do wish.
But then I'm back to reality where wishing in one hand and well, you know....

Wow that's rough....I don't like them either, but don't you think you are reducing just a bit too much?

We'll need baseball and softball, though.

Your right, we should get back to C-DOA, where there hasn't been a hint of a top 25 team since SMU rode in.
I gots to roll with most of you on this, what a crazy premise for a poll. I'd shoot for averaging better than 3 wins a season for the past 8 years first. Then maybe a bowl, then figure out what to wish for next.

There have been HINTS of a top 25 team. Last year U of H and Tulsa both ended mid-30s in AP polls, and UCF is getting closer every year.

I am not "confident" SMU will get picked to move up, but compared to 2 of 3 you mentioned, Dallas is a much larger TV market, DFW is a much easier in & out for travelling teams/fans, also Dallas is a much more exciting & interesting travel destination for opposing fans/kids/players to visit, plus Dallas&Texas are a much more fertile recruiting ground that travelling teams would like to be seen in. So if SMU can win a few more games I would think Dallas/SMU is much more attractive prospect with much better facilities than Tulsa, Oklahoma or Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
