Official petition thread to get rid of "Pony Up" songModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower
here it is. every 15 seconds he repeats himself. http://www.wfaa.com/video/?z=y&nvid=279305 Please STOP. It Sucks.
My eyes!! My ears!! "Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid." John Wayne
"Context clues and common sense can take you a long way in life." Anthony Cann
Count me in on the petition. For whatever reason, the people in the athletic department responsible for marketing over the last five years or so seem to think you have to present things in the same manner professional sports do. Why don't they understand that the attraction of college football is because it is a different animal from professional sports. They need to be marketing our games as what they are...College Football. It is all about traditions and school spirit. School bands at half time and the associated pagentry. Rivalries between the schools and fans cheering for their teams. We don't need rock music piped in. We have one of the best college bands around. We don't need weird new "mascots" or weird new songs. We don't need to be changing the colors of our uniforms every time a new coach arrives on the scene either. UT doesn't do that...A&M doesn't do that ...Arkansas doesn't do that...Oklahoma doesn't do that...damn near nobody else does that except us. If nothing else, at least get the school colors right. Look at the SMU flag that flys at the south end zone along with the American and Texas flags at the next game. The blue and red of that flag are the correct school colors...not just any blue or red.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Well, that goes without saying. The Knuckleheads are better than anyone. But hell, I'd rather sit through a three-hour version of that Journey video than listen to that song before the game. Sort of felt like going sailing and having someone shut off the wind. Put me down on the petition. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Holy crap that's horrible! Derail the Frogs!
Put gsp in charge..he "called it last Thirsday"..ALWAYS on the cutting edge. What a guru.....The Graco Guru!! Long Live JJ.
Please note that my opinion, any other bandsmen's opinion, or the opinion of anyone in anyway affiliated with the Mustang Band does not respresent the University's opinion, the Marketing dept. or anyone else.
I think the song was under rehearsed and therefore came out a total gong show. It seemed that RLK didn't quite understand how the football team comes out on the field and cut the song short. You can't ad lib with a 70 person band. If this is to continue, it needs to not be a [deleted] show, because it makes the University and the Mustang Band look terrible. Once again, my opinion in no way reflects the opinion of any official of the University. Sir, shooting-star, sir.
Frosh 2005 (TEN YEARS AGO!?!) The original Heavy Metal.
Signed and signed. I posted on the PA thread that we have traditions already, they are just not shared taught or reinforced.
1. Get cheerleaders who want to lead cheers. Not compete on ESPN or dance. If "girls" don't want to do that, make the squad a group of psychotic football fans and let the Pom squad dance somewhere. They need to be stationed in front of the students and on both ends of the West stands. Get coordinated. 2. Mustang Band is proud of being the Hub of SMU Spirit. Fine. For a hub to work it needs a wheel, spokes and a tire. YOU HAVE TO SHARE YOUR TRADITIONS with the rest of the SMU fan base. If you don't then you are just a band that shows up to games. If the student section and the rest of the stadium was coordinated to do the same chants, cheers, etc.It would be deafening. 3. This thing isn't going to get fixed overnight. It took 2-20 years to tear down; it might take that to rebuild. Lather. rinse. repeat. and repeat. and repeat. and repeat. and repeat. Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!
Well said FW!
I agree, can this song. It was horrible and embarassing. I also would like to know what was up with our band. They let the TXState band play nonstop it felt like. The fans in our section were actually cheering to some of the TxState bands songs. So we do have fans that will cheer if the band and cheerleaders would lead. They should spend less time changing outfits and more time playing. I like our band and would like to hear more of them and less of the visitors band.
diamond M are you ashamed? "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Signed.
In our commitment to top 25, maybe we can bite off a small piece and get pre game right. The song, timing the team's entry onto the field, the whole thing was pretty weak. And how hard is it to think through something like feedback in the stadium context before you fire the system up on game day? I know it is easy to sit back and critique, but this stuff is blocking and tackling. That said, I don't envy the task of getting fans to the stadium and into the game. I was in section 203 and there were only a handful of people in that and surrounding sections standing for the kickoff. And I heard maybe two or three people singing Varsity. As much as we on this board complain about the defense (not that it is unwarranted), sure would be nice to have home fans as outwardly concerned about the game as the minority of traveling fans. I will say that the students were better than post-DP days, for a positive.
