AMEN..I called this 20 years ago, it was actually quite simple.
SMU is jeopardizing its association with UT and A&M by going Ivy.
The day SMU parts ways from UT and A&M is the day you can write-off our program.

He is not going to bring up SMU on the air if he does not need to or he would be laughed out of the booth. I think you will find out how good of a supporter he will be when we recover from the abyss in which we have been dwelling.
Part of the reason I have been annoyed at James is that despite what you say above, James has often INITIATED the derisive conversation about SMU, often in non-SMU related games. I've seen him, not his booth mates, take completely gratutious pot shots at SMU. I don't expect him to be at games on Saturdays (like Lance M. and Levias, who were around before Jones and Orsini despite apparently having absolutely nothing to cheer about), but I do expect him, given his prominent national stage, to at least try and help the situation, and not pile on.
The other reason why I am not quick to congratulate James or Dickerson for jumping back on the bandwagon now that it seems to be moving in the right direction is that they were, at least in part, to blame for the wagon going in the wrong direction in the first place. If I ever hear either of them apologize for taking the money and running when times got tough, I will welcome them back entirely, no reservations. Even better if they were to pay back the school with some of that bank they made in their professional careers. But I have seen no evidence of contrition. That is what makes me a "hater" more than anything.

Do we know they haven't?
Again, I think he has been vocal in his criticism precisely because he cares about SMU. There are plenty of people, myself included, who have been harsher in our ciriticism on this board than he has, but if you think we don't care about SMU you'd be wrong.

If you knew the truth behind why they have not supported SMU in the past, you would not have made this statement I can assure you. I will not go into the details since I did not get them first hand but perhaps you should realize that when Jones went to them and asked for their support, they came on board immediately.

Craig is listed as a steering committee leader for Campus and Student life in the Second Century Campaign which is expected to raise $750 million for SMU. He seems pretty invloved in SMU for such a bad guy.

I am also sure the extra cash didn't hurt either.....
I always heard that Craig came to SMU for the triangle.........and did not receive any "supplemental income" for his participation in football.
If that is true, then he shouldn't joke and say he took a pay cut when he went to the nfl.
I don't have anything against him personally. He's nice enough when you meet him. But I don't think he has done anything for SMU. That's his choice, but *IF* we ever see success again, I don't want him jumping back on that bandwagon. As an influential alum, he could have done more to help. Some people feel an obligation to their alma mater and others don't. That's their choice, but make it a consistent one.

Some of you are really proud of yourself for blindly supporting a losing program for so long. Afterall look at all you accomplished over the last 20 years. I'd take Craig James' contributions to this school over the rest of the Ponyfans combined-although I would miss Mrydel-cuz he's funny.

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism but he has publicly bashed the program and never publicly offered a solution or presented a plan to right the ship. He proclaimed us virtual cellar-dwellers as opposed to saying "SMU has got to get out of this hole and this is what they need to do to be successful again.... I know they can get it turned around if they make the right moves." So, he has been a part of the problem, not a part of the solution.
Gone to Lubbock.
