OK BLM seems JJ's choice but I would hope that he would be replaced after 2-3 ints and no TDs. He seems to over try and after each int it only gets worse.
I think LT deserves a chance and if but for dropped passes he would have done even better. BTW, SMU was being compared to Ohio St. and not USC. Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Good Lord!
I return to check the boards and this is what I find.....dear me. BLM should be given the TCU game and the Tulane game. If in the Tulane game he is not showing serious improvement over the Rice game, then I suggest that we MAY have a problem. Personally, I think that the fact that we gave Tech 5 TOs and they only beat us by 36 is a good thing. Sanders also had another 100+ yard game. And our O-Line is looking better.
Re: OK, it's been three games
Yeah i know he said this but it was most likely a coaching ploy. we all know BLM is his guy. so theres no way there is a QB change.
There are two reasons that I see for all of the interceptions and I have noticed it in all three games. First pressure forces BLM to throw too fast and he is not accurate when pressured. Second, and probably more important, you can tell by his eyes and head position who he is throwing to. He locks in on someone and waits for them to get open and most of the time doesn't check his other receivers. It's like he has picked out his target when he comes to the line. Texas State didn't take advantage of it because we were too busy trying to keep up with your receivers who had a speed advantage on our backs. Tech didn't have that problem and neither did Rice. He can be successful and I really like his arm but he has to quit looking where he is throwing the whole time the play is developing.
Where do you come up with this stuff? The fact that you so confidently make this statement baffles me.
I don't know if JJ actually said he would reevaluate QB after three games.
What he has said before is that he evaluates the season in 3 game segments. And that in the first year, he expects significant improvement between the first and the second segment and second to the third. Besides the INTs, the completion percentage isn't high enough. The completion percentage needs to be up around 65% in this offense. As for the idiots saying that people are afraid to get benched if they scramble, that is absurd. JJ himself said that BLM needs to run in a couple of situations. But if you run when a receiver is open because you didn't progress through the reads, you are in trouble. If BLM is benched, TCU will definattely be the game for it. It will be after the first three game segment. it won't be for Turner, who hasn't shown the accuracy or the arm, just familiarity. It will be because either Willis or Smith have improved significantly in their understanding of the offense over the past three weeks. Don't think that just because JJ named BLM starter at the beginning that he hasn't stopped evaluating the position. If either of those guys show improvement in accuracy and progressing through reads in practice, he will make a move.
Because we still would have lost the game. We weren't going to beat Tech. Period. Maybe he throws fewer interceptions, but if his past history is any indication, he was certainly capable of those and fumbles as well. Why not give the QB you are going with the snaps, rather than the guy who has shown in the last 2 years that he couldn't get it done? Coach Jones has said that game experience will develop BLM. You can't simulate the experience in practice, and it is the only way he will improve. If you throw Willis in, what do you expect it would bring really? Would you be happier that we lost if you got your way?
Unfortunately, I doubt we see JW at all this season at QB because of JJ's ego. He should man up and admit that BLM isn't ready, Turner isn't ready, and JW gives us the best chance to win this season and next, but he won't.
JJ has already decided that this is a throw away season and SMU is in a rebuilding program, even though we were a few plays from being 6-6 last year, mainly due to the defense. JW gives us the best chance to win now, he won't be out there with "a deer in the headlights" look, and if he runs for a first down, that will be 1 more first down that BLM didn't run for. And it would be good for BLM and Turner to sit back, watch, and learn for a season or two. Just look at the pros, Rodgers, starting for the first time after playing behind Farve for 3 years is playing lights out, while the other rookie QB's, Flacco, Ryan, etc., show some promise, their not even close to being in Rodgers class. I had high hopes for this season, the O-Line shows promise, the defense held their own against Tech the first hald but then just got worn out. I'll be surprised if we win another game since there are no more Texas States on the schedule.
Boy, you are one bitter soul.
Not really, just felt we should have been better this year, but JJ is already thinking about this year.
I wonder what Orsini is thinking, spending so much on a season ticket campaign(?). If we win only 1 or 2 games this year, I doubt a lot of the new season ticket holders will renew next year. Even Tulane gave E. Carolina a really good game on Saturday, and I think that's a game most people thought we'd win but now I have serious doubts.
You're not going to see JW because of JW's ego. June Jones didn't leave Hawaii to some to SMU to bench JW or spite the frustrated SMU fan. If JW had gone to class (as he's supposed to) and attended team meetings (as he's supposed to) and participated in Spring practice (as he's supposed to), he would, in all likelihood, be ... exactly where he is. Maybe 2nd. JJ's the coach. We're not. Let's get behind the guy taking snaps on Saturday nights. the last time I checked no one was putting money in any of our bank accounts based on our evaluation of football talent. Go RED! Go BLUE! Go MUSTANGS! S-M-U!!
JJ benches JW for skipping class, but gives Brennan a scholarship after he was arrested for burglary and rape(?). Guess JJ got some ethics in the past year or so!!LOL Suspending JW for missing class was just another way to have an excuse to play BLM, and since BLM is choking, we're now in a rebuilding year when some people predicted SMU to go to a bowl.
