June said last night: If I were in the NFL, I'd draft Margus Hunt just to lock him up. He's that good
JJ was gushing over the guy and said he'd be at 305 by the time he graduates and a potential NFL first rounder. Now I'm a little more interested.

One other thing Jones said:
We're going to concentrate our recruiting efforts on Houston and Dallas. There's just so much talent to choose from. Doesn't mean we're going to pass up guys who contact us from outside those two areas, but that's where we'll concentrate. We've gotten an outpouring of support from coaches who really want to see SMU succeed.

Great continue to ignore the successful programs down here (Smithson Valley, Judson, etc.) so they can keep sending kids to Tulsa, Houston, etc. that end up kicking our butts in 2/3 years. Hard to believe Nate Askew who is getting looks from UT, UCLA, etc. could not help us.
What Smithson Valley and Madison coaches told me is correct, SMU does not have a presence here and it doesn't appear they really want to.

As many have pointed out, you could field a national champion year after year with just players from within a 15 mile radius of campus. I'm glad to see we're concentrating on the two largest metropolitan areas in the most talent-laden state in the Union.

I went to Tivy. And while there is some good players in SA there just is not the numbers that Dallas and houston have. Just look at the numbers in Texas Football every year.

SMU should recruit all areas of Texas. Its always the same posters. One year June says we are going to recruit Nationwide-and the same posters say Yeah Yeah! Then June says we are going to concentrate on Houston and the Metroplex and the same posters say Yeah Yeah! Sometimes I wonder if some of you can think for yourselves without being told what to think by the SMU propoganda line. I think it is pretty stupid not to send a recruiter to cover at least the top programs in around the San Antonio area and I had difficulty believing we don't-but we keep hearing this from SAPony. Its just laziness IF we don't. We've gotten a bunch of guys from even smaller schools around the San Antonio area in recent years.

Agree there are more kids in Dallas and Houston, my concern is that the top kids from there we won't get anyway now, or we will be there 2nd or 3rd choice. I think if we are a kids 3rd choice it creates problems later.
I would rather have the number 1 or 2 kids from a successful winning program that want to be at SMU, then the 6th or 7th best player in Dallas who has SMU as his 3rd choice. I don't think we are in the position yet to exclude anyone who can help us.
I sure would have preferred to have Clement and Dillard on our sideline than at Rice's sideline, and at the point we are at they could have really helped us. To be objective and a realist, we need players from all over and players that want to be here. I don't care if they are from Mars, but I do care when high school coaches from winning programs point out the lack of a presence/emphasis SMU has compared to other conference USA programs at their schools.

It should be noted though that San Antonio probably produces less recruits than any large metropolis in the South-and that should go into the strength of our efforts. Obviously, the large Hispanic population is not the best source of Division 1A recruits-but to ignore San Antonio completely is stupid-not that I know that to be the case.
