I agree with the BBall comment and we can do it with coaches that don't necessarily straddle the line...look at what Wojcik has done already at Tulsa for example...I haven't heard that he or his brother are dirty...

I'd hire Russell Springman from UT if Doherty doesn't turn it around this year.

I have heard his name brought up on other B-Ball posts...is he a hot item for a head coaches position?

Each and every point is now part of the official SMU policy. As for today-see my post above. I criticize the program in approximate direct proportion to the criticism it deserves. I probably had literally hundreds of posts over more than a decade attacking the academic model-the real, primary reason SMU has not and could not compete with our natural and traditional rivals. I have never used the academic model as an excuse for future years since 2008-because its not valid. More accurately, they won't be an excuse after about 2011-2012-a 4-5 year perspective. But I'm also not going to sit by and let some Cheerleader come on here and blatently misrepresent the truth about how we compare athletically to the TCU program. We've got enough Cheerleaders one or two posters providing an accurate picture of where we are is healthy.

I wasn't trying to say that SMU's recruiting compares to TCU since 1998, I am saying June Jones evaluation of talent now is putting us at the starting point to head towards where TCU is now. Meaning it's plausible for June Jones recruits to be similar to TCU's since 1998 STARTING in 2008 and maybe moving forward to match that success in the years to come. I think the things you point out are fundamental such as retaining players for 3-4 years and having strong coaching.

But I stick with what I said, June Jones has impressed me very much with his evaluation of talent and it's not like TCU was getting 4 star players or any 5 star players since 1998. The classes were mostly 3 star recruits before 2009. So if you look at our classes now and June's evaluation of talent with kid like Thompson, McNeal, Frazier, Reed, The Truth etc. I think SMU's 2008 can be similar to TCU's 1998, with a slightly slower growth due to mitigating factors such as all the crap that happened at SMU before 2008. But it will happen IMO.

Exactly my point...Wojcik 'maybe' gets us to Top 40 status...I want Top 10 status.

If the Baptists can do it, so can we.

If you're at a mid-major school like SMU and you need a coach with strong Texas recruiting ties, he's the man.
