IT seems like our goal is a bowl in Hawaii and that is it and we expected to do better next year.

But now we have a real shot at the championship. Even if we are better next year, which I expect us to be, it is not clear that we will be in the position we are now. We have been fortunate this season. Breaks have gone our way. Breaks that we created for the most part but next season may be different.

Being champions and going to the Liberty bowl is not something to be thrown away.

I get that we may generate more revenue for both bowls if we go to Hawaii. Maybe June thinks he owes Hawaii something. But throwing away the Liberty in advance?? I can not support that idea.

It may also be a perk for his Hawaiian staff.

Hello Earth2Zman?...I am not complaining about ANY bowl we go to....I frankly don't care and after 20 freaking years of losing I certainly wont be whining about whatever bowl we may get to go too.

I also will not complain about going to any bowl game... UNLESS WE PURPOSELY THROW AWAY A BETTER BOWL GAME! Which is what you've seemed to be supporting by arguing with us. Perhaps you're merely miscommunicating your thoughts...?

So if we wind up playing for and then winning the conference championship you don't have a problem of us going to a lesser bowl than the Liberty Bowl where the C-USA champions are supposed to play?

Obviously if we don't play for the conference championship then any bowl is a good bowl, but if we do win the championship...?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

mrydel I apologize to you but I am not talking about you, in fact I think generally you have a great perspective about our program and you certainly are not one of the "ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK JUNE JONES" blowhards. Some of them...now that they cant whine about Justin Willis/BLM/Peruna or whatever they always whine about.....now they've moved on to attacking our coach that is about to get us to a bowl for the first time in 20 years on yet another issue. frankly I will be happy where-ever we go....and sure they'd be a few more people in Memphis...but realistically how many would travel to any out of town game?...look at Ford..and I honestly believe many of the whiners will not be at either place....but thats just my opinion.

Yep, I sure have a long record of attacking June Jones.... Yup, sure do. I've been a big supporter of his. I think it was a fantastic hire, and he's done wonders for our program and will continue to do so. This doesn't earn him a free pass to be an [deleted] and make stupid decisions like trying to replace our mascot or throwing away a better bowl, and no true fan would support such a thing either.

I'm starting to feel like there might be something more going on re. June and the Hawaii Bowl then what is being said publically. Obviously, winning the conference championship and declining a Liberty Bowl bid would be unprecedented. I'd be surprised if June made the comments he did last night without first running it past Orsini and getting at least a tacit OK. Maybe its that June has used a trip to Hawaii as a motivational tool for the team this year and doesn't want to go back on it? Or maybe he has some recruiting reasons for wanting to spend some quality time out there over the holidays? Whatever it is, I feel like June must have some reason for insisting on Hawaii other than just wanting to go back and visit his old buddies on the SMU nickel. I'd be interested to hear Orsini's public comments on this issue.

PK the difference in me and you guys is I don't pretend to know more than June Jones, his staff, and Steve Orsini on whats best for our program. Botton line?....I trust these guys know what they are doing....you and the others just assume and or imply..."Ah hell June is just an ego-maniac and will do our program harm at any cost". "Ah Hell Orsini dont know what he's doing". I dont claim to have all the anwers....it seems like you guys wanna pretend you do know more than the guys paid millions. Once again assuming the worst...just like with Peruna. A pattern of always assuming the very worst about the guys (Jones/Orsini) that have us where we are......Coach Jones....Coach Reinebold....Coach Suan...Coach Knight....maybe they know more than we do?...Is that just way past any sane person to believe? Who knows...maybe a kid in Tyler considering SMU might think "wow...SMU is on the beach in Hawaii...I wanna go there!"....Maybe June Jones knows how much press we'd get in Hawaii? Thats why I say I'll be happy where-ever we go....I trust the guys that brung-us this far!

Just throwing out another total off-the-wall guess. Perhaps UH committed to take a 6-6 SMU, not perhaps their top team available and we are saying we will return the favor and go if we are conf. champs.

BTW this may and likely will all be academic but we do have a shot.

Ok.. What have a Lied about?

Show me a single one...

Show me an attack on Jones...
Any?

You can go through all my posts, let me know....
I've attacked people thinking we should go to a lesser bowl for sure.
They deserve it for wanting less when more is there for the taking.
You appear to be one?
