Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...mrydel was making a little play on words so to speak. Crosby Stills Nash and Young was a rock band back in the '70s. mrydel, like me, has been around for quite awhile.
![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...Ok, now that's funny. I thought that I'd been around some time according to my kids. But I start with the Osmonds and Jacksons you lost me. Born in the middle of the sixties those were the good old days. When I could look at Carol Burnett, Hee Haw and WWF wrestling, Bonanza, Big Valley with the entire family and no one having to cover eyes and ears.
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...
You could be my daughter although in reality I was not quite "that far along" in the mid 60's. I did enjoy all of those shows, however, with my family. I always wanted to buy a car from Junior Sample by calling BR-549. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...As I remember (I was at the game but the TD was at the oposite end of the field) McCann (or whoever the defender was) fell down on that last TD by Marshall and it left the receiver running all alone for an easy catch.
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...Could not really tell on All Access but it looked like he got his legs tangled up while turning.

Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...almost any of these guys would do. Except for the 5'9, 300 pounders

Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...I too was relegated to watching this game on All Access which was dismal particularly in the 4th quarter. Hence, it is difficult to comment with great specificity. My observations are that both our O and D lines were soundly man handled by bigger and stronger athletes. Our lack of depth in both lines was very obvious as they were both worn out by half time. Our inexperience was used against us. I was particularly watching Margus Hunt who was allowed to run himself out of plays time and time again. He tended to take an inside rush and they just let him go on runs and just ran around him. Frequently, the QB would roll to the outside right around his inside rush and have all day to see the field and hit open receivers. I am not picking on Margus; however, his/our inexperience was more obvious and really hurt us in this game than most of our other games. I think this inexperience caused the kids to get a bit frustrated which then caused them to be out of sync and semi-panicked for most of the game. Never-the-less, they were able to hang around and still had a chance to win right up until the end. Yes, this team has made great progress this season, lessons have been learned and the future is very promising despite this hard to take learning experience. When JJ was hired I stated repeatedly on this Board that it would take him 4 years to have the talent on the field to be competitive. He is way ahead of my greatest expectations and we should all take the time to step back, give this team credit, try to appreciate how much progress has really been accomplished, how much better our talent level has become, how much more talent is en route, what a great group of teachers we have in this coaching staff, how professionally and patiently they handle the players and how bright our future has become. GO PONIES
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...After the game last night in Huntington, I came away encouraged, once again, because the team DI NOT GIVE UP! Overmatched as we were, we came back and scored the last touchdown and were playing to win, or at least tie. This is a new trend in the Mustang football program! I love it!
Long live Inez Perez!
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...
This is an excellent summation, from watching the game in person and seeing how small we looked relative to Marshall. We defn. help are own, but they were much bigger/stronger at every position that mattered.
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...
They were the better team, no doubt about it. Everyone keeps saying year 4..ok. Then by year 5 he's gone and then what? We have all the R&S players in place then. Hopefully he can hand pick his successor?
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...
LOL. Stay home and watch it on TV.
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...It was still a competive game on the road...bad play and all. In the long run the arrow is still pointing up and for that I am greatful
Re: Let's be painfully honest here guys and girls...
I agree with both of you. This years team overachieved which is a credit to the coaching staff and the players. The recruiting is picking up nicely and the future is much brighter now than it was two years ago. Keep up the good work!
