Nothing against TCU but their ascendency is directly related to our post death penalty woes. Notice they started getting almost all of the decent talent around this area that the BCS boys passed on or couldn't recruit because the kids wanted to play in N. Texas. Most of those kids signed with SMU in the late 70s and 80s. I predict that as our local recruiting gets back to pre death penalty days, TCU will go back into decline. There isn't enough non BCS talent around here to sustain both programs. Its kill or be killed.

He tries to interview for every decent BCS job that comes open. Surely he knows he has topped out at toad hollow and should leave now if the right opportunity comes open. I heard today that if Stoops went to Notre Dame, Patterson would "beg" for the OU job. I am sure that list is long and distinguished thought.

Does Patterson have kids in local schools or anything. If I was him, I'd keep doing what he's been doing. Dig in, keep winning, and negotiate more money and stay a frog. If i was him

Perhaps...but we would have gone undefeated if we played SMU's schedule. Sorry but I couldn't resist. :D Congrats on the win over Tulane and best of luck in the Hawaii Bowl! I will be pulling for you guys.

Point being he still got a raise to 2.85 mil or whatever you claim. Why didn't he just refuse the raise. Maybe he cares more about his own personal foundation than teacher pay huh.

DavidPaul123,

TCU would not have gone undefeated if they had ND's schedule this year.

Houston would have been an interesting game but you are probably right. How do you think you guys would have done in the Big Ten? Just curious.

Actually, I don't. Don't you think the OU job is better than the TCU job?

Do I think OU is a better job than TCU? To me, yes. To him, probably not.

I was calling bs on your saying that he'd "beg" for the job as well as him "interviewing for every BCS job."

There are plenty of good players to go around in DFW-if DFW was a State it would have the 4th or 5th greatest numbers of Division 1A players of all states in the union. The problem has more to do with convincing the same players to stay home. A strong SMU program would be more successful.

I would also add that in the late 70's and 80"s SMU pulled from all over the state of Texas - not just DFW - as does TCU now. Although there is plenty of talent in DFW - it goes in all directions so you have to pull from all areas of the state - not just DFW if you going to jump to the next level - and with JJ - we should start to pull nationally - but mostly in just the skill positions.

I'll try to be objective. On a neutral field I think we take care of Penn State and Iowa. All the others (besides Ohio State) I feel we handle with relative ease (Northwestern might be a bit scary if they are playing well offensively). As for Ohio State, I think we have a great shot to beat them especially since their offense is somewhat pedestrian. Would probably be a defensive struggle and I think our overall speed on offense might surprise them. (But what do I know???)

TCU finishes 2nd in Total Defense nationally(only .2 behind Florida) and 5th in Total Offense. Those Total Offense numbers amaze me because I thought they would not excel on Offense until 2010. Hell the Total Defense numbers amaze me too because they replaced half their defense although many of the promoted backups had a lot of experience

Kudo's to Patterson and the Frogs for running the table. They beat some good teams including SMU's. They deserve a BCS bowl and if there was a playoff, I have no doubt that they'd go far. Unless UT steps on its yingyang against NU though, that undefeated season will not result in a shot at the title game. I hope that Cincy takes care of bidness against Pitt and that TCU and Cincy get to play each other in a battle of the other unbeatens. And I hope that Boise gets an at large BCS bid as well since they deserve it more in my view than Iowa or PSU (I'm sorry but all the JoePa pity got used up in 1982). As for Patterson's future at TCU, its whatever he wants it to be. If he wants to stay and be the Darrell Royal of TCU, and get paid a little less than going to Notre Dame or some other school that would be great for TCU. If he wants to take the cash, I'm sure a few schools would roll the brinks truck up to Ft. Worth. The axes are falling all over the place. Would KU take him to replace Mangino if he gets fired. Would Maryland open up their wallets, if Fridge goes bye, bye. Would ND want him if they can negotiate a Weis exit (do they have a Tide and Burgers moment with old Charlie?)? If Stoops goes to ND, would he go to OU? Its nice to be Patterson right now.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
