Re: OT: Mangino outNothing like perception being reality. Remind us again of what he said?
Re: OT: Mangino outSend you back home to get shot on the streets with your hommies.
That is WAY different than... Do you want me to bring a pink skit for practice tomorrow? Or my grandmother can lift more than that. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: OT: Mangino outDon't forget about mentioning that a player's father is an alcoholic ,in a tirade in front of the team, after the player had confided in him about the matter.
Re: OT: Mangino outI just wonder how it would have played if KU was 9-3, playing Texas tomorrow for the Big 12 championship and with a trip to the Cotton Bowl as a fallback.
I'm just sayin'.... Because if that happened, you would have seen Mangino probably go to the podium, get emotional and cry, apologize and say he has grown from this and will grow from this. And that he will be a better man for it. He would have been issued a reprimand, some probationary function like speaking engagements about abuse and then move on. By the spring, it would have been a memory. The news cycle got him.
Re: OT: Mangino outI think they asked him to apologize and he wouldn't.

Re: OT: Mangino outI just don't think it's as simple as that and his critics seized the poor season -- 0-7 to finish? -- as the blood in the water to really go after him.
Throw in the media sharks and this story got so much traction, it was pretty silly. IMO KU athletic administration should not skate on this. If anyone is going to say no one in that department had an agenda mixed in here, then they're only lying to themselves.
Re: OT: Mangino outI do think if he looked more like, say, Gruden than, well...himself, perhaps he wouldnt have been fired.
Re: OT: Mangino outThat is what I was thinking.
Happens all the time in business. Not just size but tattoo's, clothes, etc. Can not be proved but it happens. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: OT: Mangino outMangino was fired because he was impossible to work for and for some to play for. This article will give you a little more insight.

While I appreciate what he did, especially in 2007, overall his teams were average to mediocre. 50-48 overall, 23-41 conference record, 4-20 record against the South division and a 10-28 record on the road. 3 Bowl game victories are great especially for my football challenged school. However, in a time where you can play 4 patsies in the non-con and pick up 3 victories and a losing conference record overall in a crappy Big 12 North, it doesn't take much to go to a bowl these days.
