It seems like we are usually listed as Southern Methodist in polls - and what's wrong with it anyway? It is the name of the school after all.

I like Southern Methodist as well. Nobody knows SMU. Got asked by a girl if I went to Southern Missouri.

thats why you have to really start building the name brand back up now. There should be one SMU in this country, no southern mississippi, or southern missouri, or saint mary's...when people say KU, USC(outside of carolina), UT, FSU, etc. you know what they are talking about, I think it can be that way with SMU.

As always I am different than most. I never tell people I went to SMU. I always say Southern Methodist.

It's not the "Former Coaches' Poll".

FYI Poll lists the members which includes Leach. It also said:
EDITOR'S NOTE: Only 58 coaches voted. Former Akron coach J.D. Brookhart could not be reached to file a vote.

A reason I like being in a conference with USM... so people might see and learn the difference.

I was probably the Navy coach. He and Coach Jones are close friends.

I'm proud of our methodist roots - but Southern Methodist sounds small and regionalish and too churchy. If we are to be national players in all things (sports and academics) we need to adopt the SMU brand and push it HARD everywhere - which means insisting we are listed that way in any rankings etc...which is of course something we now thankfully have to worry about again.

nobody knew what TCU was 10 years ago. The other potential SMU ers will just have to figure out a different brand.

WORD-we are SMU and that's how the school sells itself

btw there is a site that tracks ballot votes of Coaches but I guess they haven't released ballots from most recent vote. http://www.pollstalker.com

I thought for sure it was the Akron coach who voted for us.

I'm an Episcopalian and not embarrassed by the Methodist association. I always respond "Southern Methodist" when asked. In fact, I usually say "Southern Methodist, in Dallas, Texas."
