I have nothing but love for Shawnbrey. He did so much for our program in just one year. I don't think Kevin Fields commits to us if Shawnbrey didn't show that a running back can have success in June's offense. Also, it's not just his mom he has to worry about, but Shawnbrey has 2 kids. He has to feed them too, even a 4th or 5th rounder's salary is a lot more than almost any of us will make in a year. I wish him nothing but the best in The NFL

Shawnbrey is accustomed to running out of a pro set because he ran it at Miami (in fact it took him a while to get accustomed to the run and shoot). By the wqay Chris Johnson ran out of the spread at ECU.

Correct, Shawnbrey was brought here to help us get to a bowl this year. He accomplished his mission and has served SMU well. Best wishes to his family.

I am with BUS. The best thing this kid could have done is get a degree from SMU. He is not a slam dunk pro and I hope he makes it in life. I wish he would have hit the books harder.

In reality he may never have gotten a degree from SMU with the situation he is in (he can still come back and get it). Also, people talk like he was getting his degree in Engineering or Business, was he? And ask bus is he using his degree that he got from SMU (messing with you Bus sort of). But it still is a win win situation. He gets an opportunity to go pro and we get to a bowl that will help the program for years to come.

McNeal made us a legitimate Top 25 team next year. Now, I'm not sure. I guess this allows SMU an opportunity to develop a guy like Fields next season and still win 7 or 8 games as June continues to build for 2011-2012 and beyond.

It's a set-back, but as June has stated, he is looking a couple of years down the road and McNeal would have exhausted his eligibility by then anyway.

Thanks for one very sweet year and good luck on Sundays.

Good point Glenn, if we had not had Shawnbrey we may not have had a bowl game or Fields. He has helped us build for the future.

No way did he make us top 25 next year. We are not there yet. It takes more than one player. We will miss him, and Fields will not be ready due to the new scheme and need for him to offer blocking for pass protection. Line will start at RB and Fields will be worked in much like Padron was. If Fields starts game one, I hope that Bo is ready to come in when Padron gets killed. I do look forward to watching Fields in the future but I think we start off with Line, Lundy, Butler then Fields until he learns the system.

He rode in here out of nowhere, kinda like Clint Eastwood in one of those old Westerns. And as Clint did, he kicked a whole lot of *ss in a short amount of time, and then rode into the sunset, leaving as fast as he came, and he left us much better off.

Wow, I strongly disagree with your assessment. SMU definitely would have been Top 25 material next year with all those weapons and the momentum created by the huge Bowl win, and I'll bet most ponyfans would agree with that. I'm aware that SMU is looking ahead but June is ahead of schedule here and is ready to make noise nationally. We have to have a guy like Fields step up next year because if we are going to rely on Line and the rest of those spares you mentioned, we are in for a very humbling experience. A great running back makes a huge difference for a team, and in that regard, one man CAN be the difference between 7-5 and 10-2.

Wow-you are one naive ponyfan. Come back after the Texas Tech and TCU game. We've gone from scraping by in 4th Q second half shoot-outs with Rice, Tulane and UTEP at home to a Top 25 Team in a couple of months

I think we got a shot at beating both those teams, pal. What's with all the defeatists?

I'm not coming on here and saying we are going to start the year in the Top 25. I just think that with the Bowl win momentum, if we can knock off a TCU or a Tech, (get one or two upsets early) and then compete well in conference play, this team could crack the Top 25 next season. What's so naive about that?

I really believe that we will win one of those two games (TT or TCU). Right now I feel like TT is our best chance. With all of the changes going on in the coaching staffs we may have a better opportunity to finish at the top of CUSA than previously.

Shawnbrey- best of luck in the future. Hope we see you on Sundays. :)

Any evidence/history to indicate that this was more than just a really lucky year.
