SMU is one of those programs, that's small enough where "your voice can be heard", so to speak. When you become a Mustang Club member, volunteer to help raise money, sell tickets etc... you are able to take ownership of this program. SMU needs our help, and you are appreciated when you do get involved. You wanna have a program that kicks butt on the field? Well, put a shoulder behind this thing, and help push! Pony Up!

Don't be a Dead Beat Pony. thats sum low down... sorry zhi! man

How does that work? When I go to games down there you show you get a card on the way out of the stadium at halftime (or whenever) and when you come back in you have to show the card (which they take back) and your ticket. They do not look at the ticket to see which particular section you are sitting in. How do they police it in your dad's section to make sure no one leaves the stadium? I assume he is allowed to leave the section to go to the concession stand or bathroom? I am somewhat curious because I have wondered if there method is fool proof or if there is some way that someone can sneak a friend in due to their re-entry policy. I have never been able to find a loop hole though.
Wuba, I don't know when the last time was that you've been to the stadium, but they used to do that because they took your ticket where you entered your section (so that concessions and bathrooms were outside the ticketed area - and you got a "pass out ticket" when you had to leave to go to the concessions, bathrooms). Now, at least for the west side upper deck, you have to show your ticket before you get on the escalator that takes you to that particular upper deck. Concessions and bathrooms are now within the ticketed area, and you aren't allowed to leave the ticketed area during the game.
Last time I was there was November, and I went to a couple of other games this year. I might be wrong about having to show the ticket when you come back in, but I definitely left at halftime and came back in with the "pass out ticket". The entire Alumni Center is packed at halftime and then empties out somewhat when the 2nd half starts, so I guess some sections are different than others.

Might just be the upper deck. They probably don't like keeping 11 floors worth of escalators going for so long.

You're a scumbag if you said that about Stallion and its not true. Way to represent the Mustang Club.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I'll bite. University of Texas' minimum donation is $150 to Longhorn Foundation which is their equivalent of the Mustang Club. That's for "priority" in the ticket buying process. You don't have to necessarily donate to Longhorn Foundation to get tickets. However, it's a good idea if you do because their process is as follows Orders received prior to the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled before all other ticket orders, including individual game orders. The priority handling deadline date is May 29, 2009. All orders are filled in the following priority: 1. Longhorn Foundation donors (When filling single game tickets for Longhorn Foundation members, Longhorn Legacy level donors are filled first.) 2. UT letterwinners 3. Voting faculty / Code 1000 staff members (according to the UT Office of Human Resources) 4. Dues-paying Texas Exes members 5. General public 6. Ticket requests received after the "Priority Handling Deadline" are filled by date of receipt. Priority handling no longer applies.
As far as a minimum donation for seats on the 50 yard line, there is none. If they are available and you have priority, you get them. My question to all of you is this - why constantly cite the University of Texas as justification for the Mustang Club prices when the University of Texas obviously has such a different process?
It's been a few years, and I am sure the cost has gone up since then, but when I lived in Austin a few years ago, I think I remember 6K gave us the ability to purchase 6 seats on the way upper deck at about the 35. But our spot had been grandfathered in, so we didn't have to give as much as some of the new people. Without a longhorn foundation donation, I am not sure that you can purchase any season tickets anywhere in stadium because demand is too high.

Had a great time last year. I've sent in my $1,000, added two partners to my tent, the $1,000 covered all the seats' required donations, my total cost will be the same, I have three partners instead of one.
If you get three friends to go in with you, the cost goes down because the donation covers a block of four.
This is a consolidation strategy that schools like because renewal rates are higher.
If you try to make three new friends, at least your friend making skills will improve.

Stick it on your car, or at least display some SMU or Pony "visual" on your vehicle. We can all "get the word out" while driving/sitting in traffic.

I have one of those little metallic stick on things in the shape of the Mustang. However 95% of the state probably doesnt know that means SMU And if I had an SMU sticker where I live most people would think that means St. Marys University

bookstore has one that is the Mustang w/ SMU inside the emblem. I got that one just for this reason. Most folks would probably think my kid goes to JJP or McAllen Memorial

Ole Miss has a sticker that is a block M with a building that resembles Dallas Hall. Fools me every time I see it.

I have one of those stick-on silver Mustangs on my vehicle, but I also have my SMU Mustang Club sticker on the rear window to clear up any ambiguity as to the Mustang's heritage.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
