I can't drive 64. So I won't drive in the dark anymore. It was still cheaper than spending the night in Houston and picking up the bar tab

Well let's all back the speed limits down to 55.

Modern vehicles are much safer, more stable, etc. There is no reason speed limits should be so slow. Major routes like 45 Dallas to Houston needs to at least have something like an HSV (high speed vehicle) lane for people with decent cars with a speed limit of 90 or 100.

Everyone knows speed limits are set artificially low to make more ticket money. Anyone remember 55 mph on the tollway?

Sure there are agencies that abuse the system, but by and large speed limits are there to protect human life. It's possible the limits are too low, but the thinking is it's better to err on the side of safety. But, if you're right that they can increase without a corresponding increase in human injury, let's work to get them increased instead of just deciding to ignore the law and in effect extend your middle finger to the rest of humanity who abide by the law.

When I locked my cruise at 64 miles an hour I was afraid I was going to get rear-ended by those driving 85. 65 is too slow man. Now lifiting my middle finger to the box.

There were nearly 6,420,000 auto accidents in the United States in 2005. The financial cost of these crashes is more than 230 Billion dollars. 2.9 million people were injured and 42,636 people killed. About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States -- one death every 13 minutes.

Oh, last year 7,291 teens died from auto crashes.

Speed limits should be situational. I-35 is so congested you some times have a hard time even getting up to the speed limit. I love it ...your doing 75 and all of a sudden everyone comes down to a complete stop and then in a few miles your back up to 75 and then repeat the cycle. Out in far west Texas the limit is 75 and everyone does 80 and 85. The worst situation is when someone doing 65 moves out into the fast lane to pass someone going 64...two miles later he finally merges back in front of the person doing 64. That kind of "safe" driving probably kills as many people as drunk drivers. Everyone becomes so frustrated that when given the chance to get by this safe 65 mph guy they haul out like a bat out of hell. My 2 cents worth for the day.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

They moved the speed limit to 80 out in West Texas a few years back. Probably because everyone was going 80 anyway.
