through 9 games
2009: 11 attempts
2010: 13 attempts

So my question to all of the people who have constantly bashed padron this year... said how much we miss McNeal.... how much we miss Sanders.... what are your thoughts?

and to have a well rounded educated conversation... here are the defensive stats

2009 Defensive stats through 9 games
Rushing allowed: 1408 Yards, 17 TDs
Passing allowed: 1993 Yards, 13 TDs
KO Returns: 951 Yards, 2 TDs
Punt Returns: 266 Yards, 1 TDs

2010 Defensive stats through 9 games
Rushing allowed: 1378 Yards, 17 TDs
Passing allowed: 1924 Yards, 11 TDs
KO Returns: 1053 Yards, 1 TDs
Punt Returns: 103 Yards, 0 TDs

these numbers are very very similar.... i think its easy to look at all of these different stats and see the key.... turnover +/- ratio. The offense has actually done a better job at protecting the ball this year in comparison to 2009. But the defense has failed to make the plays we saw last year.

In my opinion it is not a matter of the offense taking a step backwards. its not a matter of Padron holding the ball too long. its not losing Sanders and McNeal. Losing McCann and Sterling is the biggest reason we havent seen an increase in wins from last year to this year. Young/undersized corners have killed us this year.

*note i would argue that the defenses we have faced this year are arguably better then 2009.

The real question is...is the percentage of improvements from 2009 to 2010 acceptable to the coaching staff and what can be done between now and the start of 2011 to win convincingly against conference opponents and beat a BCS school, maybe even on the road, as they try to take the expected progression into the fourth year?

As for this year, the backend of the defense's inability to get hands on balls is the biggest reason this team hasn't won more games. McCann, Bell and Moore were more instrumental to last year's success than some may realize or admitted coming into this year

I will repeat my assertion that through the first 6 games of the season last year, everyone thought the offense was WAY underperforming bc of horrible QB play. So our numbers through 9 games this year are better than they were through 9 last season when they were considered to be awful. Also, the offensive performance in games 7-13 under Padron was fantastic and led people to believe we would set the world on fire this season. We have improved on offense from last year, but probably not as much as we should have.

And Padron does hold the ball too long, you have to agree there too (it may not always be entirely his fault).

Also agree that the losses of Bell, McCann, Sterling, AND Rock (he was an INT machine last year) have really hurt the secondary. No way to replace all those guys considering the little depth we have.

im not saying that he doesnt hold the ball too long, i do question a couple of things regarding JJ's development of padron (not that i'm someone to question a coach who drafted ryan leaf
"Ryan was the guy I was hoping would come to us," then-Chargers quarterback coach June Jones told the San Diego Union-Tribune right after the draft
, because that Manning guy was overrated....)

Things we know:
1. June has given Padron a bigger play book this year
2. June has Padron run to the sideline every play to tell him what to look for (much like he has done with all of his previous QB's

If everyone is so concerned about Padron locking onto one receiver, shouldnt some of the blame be placed on June who is "telling him" who to look for (I assume he gives him 1, 2, 3)? My thought is that when June tells him this is who you need to throw to (every play) Padron locks on that guy until he is open (which was not happening the first 3-5 games). DOes June not tell Padron the progression in film study? During Practice? During walk through? Shouldnt Kyle know the progressions based on the defense before saturday?

Bingo!

I would have expected an improvement from one year to the next instead of mirrored stats, especially with out Bo.

2009 Total: TDs 16, Int 11

2010 Total: TDs 22, Int 8

Thats a pretty good improvement

and if u take Padron out of the 2009 stats it would look like this

12 Tds 10 Ints v. 22 Tds, 8 int

Bobby Beathard (the Chargers GM at the time) drafted Leaf.

I've known Peyton Manning for a long time and I really love the kid," said Charger's offensive coordinator June Jones, "But when I went and watched Ryan Leaf workout he was impressive. I came away excited about coaching Ryan Leaf. He is going to be a franchise guy."

June has been wrong before, but that may have been the most wrong he has been about anything in his career. And what was amazing was how fast it became apparent that Leaf wasn't going to be a franchise guy. Must be how June went from being "excited" about coaching Leaf on draft day to bailing on the Chargers (and on a 5 year multimillion dollar deal) less than a year later to coach the worst college team in America.

1992-
Season lowlight: Before the season, the Falcons traded their unruly backup quarterback, Brett Favre, for a first-round pick. That pick, running back Tony Smith, attended Southern Miss like Favre, but the similarities stopped there. Smith's NFL tenure was a mere three years. Favre hasn't missed a start since you -- yes, you -- wore Hammer pants to school

jones was the OC

1996-
Season lowlight -- Jeff George's infamous screaming match with head coach June Jones in Week 3. This was bad then because the Falcons were forced to start Bobby Hebert for the remainder of that season. The enduring tragedy is how much harder that's made life for Jason Whitlock, the last defender George has with whom he doesn't share the same last name.

2008- BLM quote

“He’s the right kind of kid. He’s a winner, he’s a competitor and he’s tough,” said new SMU head coach June Jones, whose Mustangs (1-1) will face Texas Tech (2-0) at 6 p.m. today at Jones AT&T Stadium. “He’s just young.”
