PB followed up his banner 6-6 year in 2006 with 1-11. In 2006 we got drilled by Tech and North Texas. No TCU on the schedule that year. Non-conference wins over Sam Houston State and Arkansas State.

I've been a little disappointed with our season, but if you don't think the program is in far better shape than it was in 2006, you're way off-base.

SMU, on a short week, went to ECU in front of a big hostile crowd and won a hard fought game in overtime. They had to fly home and get ready to go out of town again and play a talented, tough and well coached opponent in seven days before another big hostile crowd. The QB has a badly sprained ankle. We have very little depth particularly quality depth. Early in the game we lost a good linebacker and a little later our best player in the secondary. Our place kicker is still hampered by an injury. The whole team looked tired to me, especially in the first half.

They never quit and in the second half they pretty much fought the other team to a draw and the defense was still making plays at the end. JJ is just as responsible for the good defensive effort as he is for the offense. If the defense looked lousy many would be blaming him. To bring up such points as a change in uniform or some silly Shetland Pony shows, to me, how shallow some of our fans are,

Stop responding to obvious trolling.

OK, you get the DUMB [deleted] post of the day. Yes, I am troll that registered back in 2003. I am just offering my opinion. Hell I played for SMU...even scored a couple of TDs...you probably cheered for me if you are old enough.

Grow up, be able to take criticism and respond to it thoughtfully like so many others have.

Every NFL and most college teams uses principles of the Run and Shoot. It is more difficult for college players to learn but once they do it is very difficult to stop.

he is lazy????

shadowman wrote:Only because he refuses to change. Look at Hawaii, they basically kept the run and shoot, but updated it. June is still running the same offense he ran in the 80's. Sounds either lazy or stubborn to me.

Remember folks, there is a reason no teams in the top 25 still run the run and shoot or triple option, because there are better offenses.

take off your June Love Glasses and soak up that last sentence..

but it works dude...

resistance to change is not laziness, it actually takes a lot of energy.

and frankly, i could care less what he does w/ his offense, we're going places and getting better players and winning.

if we had won the game today, you're not on here saying all of this.

and i know you're going to say "but i would have said this anyway"...let's not pull everyone's leg here, that's not true.

Good post, believe me, I am no Phill Bennett fan and believe we are now in much better shape....BUT, we are not in as much better shape as many fantasize...(my opinion!)

i think his valid point is the stubborness - We put ourselves in a hole with the jog back and forth - using up precious clock and eliminating the possibility for a hurry up offense or a 2 minute drill. He needs to re-tool that for next year - its a joke.

otherwise - the depth is our biggest issue and is being improved each year. We need some JC talent in here pronto in the secondary - and given this offense we dont have good enough physical receivers. Looking much better at O line and linebacker though....

Great post, depth is a big problem, and we did try....but that offense is so predictable and unimaginative that I cannot seeing it working against a good team with a good D (my opinion only)!

Gorgia Tech won the ACC last year and went to a BCS game with the triple Option, and would have had a good chance to win it again this year if Nesbit didn't get hurt. The tripple Option fell away because it is less effective the more times a defense sees it, and you can't score in a hury so if you don't have a defense to keep you close your in trouble. Offense don't become obsolete. New things get invented and they become trendy. you have a bad year or two a coach gets fired and they bring in a new system.

June could use some more creative play calling believe me and we all know that. He doesnt need to go but I think Kyle is holding JJ back some. Maybe its because of this is his sophomore jinx or something but Kyle NEVER got my confidence going this year.
JJ was VERY predictable on his play calling we all have to agree....

Also every NFL Team runs a variation of the Run and Shoot. The run and shoot referes to the option routes of the WR. My guess is that many coaches at the college level don't trust younge WR and QBs to be able to lear it quick enough especialy at bigger schools where the top talent is looking to leave after only 2-3 years

You say it is unimaginative and predictable which is funny because the receivers don't even know what routes they are running until they see the coverage.

Maybe there is nothing wrong with the June Jonese Offense, we only scored 7 points because we went up against one of the best defenses in the nation ( I dont think so).

He is sturbborn, there is no reason in 2010 to make your QB run over and get the play before you have even seen the defense. Turn it over June, hire a protege, but we have to change.

i think part of the reason he was so predictable was our opponant. Best D of the year other then TCU. So he stayed conservative and tried to put us in 2nd and 3-6 yrds instead of 2nd and 10. That kept us in the game.

With more hosses we can do more with the offense - we are still undermanned.

He says that the run and shoot looks a little tired and is really not that effective. I said, well, he has reengerized us and does good recruiting. Then, he says, thats good, has he considered hiring an offensive coordinater that would run a more dynamic offense?

Then I said, we went 7-5 last season, and 7-6 this season, he has brought us back. Then he said, didn't Phil Bennett go 6-6 in his next to last year...How has June been much better. I said well, he wants to get rid of Peruna and switch us to black uniforms....Not a good argument, but true.

June has missed the boat, his offense is outdated, he has not updated it like Hawaii did.

The defense played well enough to win, but we had such an unimaginative offense game plan, everyone could call out when we would call a run, or a pass...and we lost about 8 minutes of game time making Kyle run over to get the play before we even saw the defense. He needs to update and at least go to handsignals.

Great defensive effort, but our "offensive guru" had a lazy and unimaginative game plan, like always.

Peace out!

June is a smart guy but you're right he is lazy and stubborn. Would it kill him to evolve a little? You know it just might.

he is lazy????

I meant in terms of gameplanning he is sometimes lazy, like he doesn't even consider changing what he does for the sake of better production. If this offense were running like it's supposed to be then this wouldn't be a problem but we're not, and haven't been close to doing so since the Hawaii Bowl. We have no 2 minute drill or hurry-up offense (a lot of this has to do with the Padron sideline thing), we have 1 running play (it has worked but we could give teams more to think about if we used a Wildcat package like everyone does). We don't use Line enough in the passing game though he has previously shown he can be very useful.
