Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Does the OSU situation remind everyone who was alive/followed the Death Penalty saga as far as details slowly leaking out?
Sh** is obviously going to hit the fan sometime in the near future. There is no way Gee (who is a pompous [deleted]), and Gene Smith keep their jobs after this. Also, who in their right mind would want to take this job? I understand that this is a top 5 job in CFB, but the NCAA is going to lay wood on this program. Tony Barnhardt was interviewed this morning and he said that he wouldn't be surprised if 10-15 scholarships were taken away per year, and no postseason for 2-3 (maybe even 5) years. If I was Urban Meyer, Fatterson, Mark Dantonio, I wouldn't touch this job with a 10 foot pole. "smupony94: Harry, you have been promoted to purveyor of official status capabilities."
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
So who does he think loses the 10-15 scholarships a year and no bowl? Northwestern? Vanderbilt? Boise State? Tressel ends up at UTEP or UNLV for 3 years then heads to the SEC where his Sgt. Schultz imitation will really be appreciated.

Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Harry0569-maybe, but..
we are reading things in near 'real' time per the internet, as opposed to paper held in the hands, published days after an event or revelation...thus damage control is thrust into hyper-speed, with a lot of loose ends dangling. Remember a few weeks ago folks stating that " I hope Coach Tressel doesn't fire me". Tressel was moved to the unemployment line as a sop to the school and the NCAA...but it happened with remarkable speed, and with a remarkably quick change of the OSU party line. athletic programs are MUCH more sophisticated in the manner and makeup of cover-up... there do appear to be David Stanley-type characters out there, perhaps waiting for the right situation to reveal another part of the story... Cam/Auburn should not look at this as a blessing to take the heat off of them...instead, I would think that if a program like OSU is dealt with like USC, there would be those that would seek to look at AU again, with the promise that the aforementioned 'Sgt. Shultz defense' will not pass closer scrutiny. get your popcorn ready, folks. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?I feel for the kids that did thing the right way, Like paying full and fair price for their tats. And driving just one car supplied by a booster their entire career.
And how about the signees of OSU's 2011 top 7 (or top 11 depending on the ranking organization ) football class. Now what do you do? No head coach, possible huge restrictions (like no discounts on tattoos, used cars only, no new hot rods, sell tickets at face value, no more) and a restriction on bowls. I bet the NCAA will not even let them have a T-shirt for this ( I signed the day before the $h!t hit the fan at OCU and all I got was this lousy T-shirt)! Fortunately, the Big X (+II) doesn't seem interested in preventing OSU from being eligible for conference championship play. Talk about a career mistake in the making! Don’t you know a few of them are saying, ‘Dang, and I could have gone to Auburn or Alabama!’

Since the "A" key is next to the "S" key, not sure if the misspell of his name was intentional. If it was: Genius. I will steal it regardless. He is now Treasel.
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
I agree, Dim Treasel it is. Pony Up
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Just an observation after listening to sports radio all afternoon. It seems that OSU's strategy is to throw Treacle and Pryor under the bus. I think their belief is if they sacrifice enough "Names" then the NCAA will accept this as punishment complete. All of a sudden the news is reporting the Pryor has been a problem child since he arrived on campus.
Granted he didn't help himself showing up to the meeting regarding Treacle getting fired in a brand new 350Z with Dealer plates. I am willing to bet he is declared ineligible for the season in enough time for him to declare for the supplemental draft. He will be the next fall guy for the school. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall

Rick Pitino walked into the mess Eddie Sutton left him at Kentucky. How did that work out?
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?Ohio St did the best thing for the future of the program-and the NCAA will probably reduce sanctions(as they probably should) but now here's the hard part. You have to clean up the program and stop the bleeding now. That means getting to the bottom of the cheating. That's not as easy as it looks especially since there are indications it may be pervasive.

lack of institutional control, anyone? stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?or institutional control by firing the cheater?. At this juncture for 3 more probations SMU chose to retain the cheating Coach and Staff and continue to fund the payroll.

Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
OSU's problem seem to have a depth and visceral nature that will cost more than removing the coach. SMU (76-86) approached the NCAA as a nuisance that was necessary to be avoided, and without much sophistication to be deceived. While I am under no illusions that this will be investigated to the degree that SMU was during the above timeline, the parallel in practice seems pretty similar. OSU (AD, admin) appears to have much the same mindset as SMU during that period. goose=gander. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?
the difference being Ohio State is the crown jewel of the Big Televen+1...SMU embarrassed the crown jewel of the SWC. Wonder how this would go if it was Northwestern who had committed these transgressions and not Ohio State? Anyone think it would be different from the the punishment that will be handed out to the Buckeyes?
