It also helps to have someone from UT on the infractions committee to divert attention away from UT's activities. They may not have anyone on that committee today, but they certainly did back in the good ole 1980's.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Also interesting facts:

Houston comes into the SWC in 1976. Wins 5 champisonsips in the next ten years.

1988: Scores 60 points against UT
1988: Goes on pobation.

actually UT did get put on probation a couple of times in the 1980s over 25 years ago partly for the reasons pointed out above. That's why I said 20 years ago. I know where all the bodies are buried at every single school. UH cheated their [deleted] off under Yeoman and they deserved the probations they got

Yes, the NCAA really slapped UT in the 80s. They could only offer 20 scholarships one year instead of 25. The program has never recovered.

We are truly blessed to have someone on ponyfans who knows everything that has happened at every school! What a remarkable gift!

Urban Myer would have loved to have this record at Florida. 27 players arrested and 30 convictions in 5 seasons. Then again he won two titles...

Yeah and someone that every time another school is hit with serious
violations is quick to point out that whatever the charge is that it cant be as
bad as what SMU did and how terrible SMU was decades ago! He wants to make
sure that everybody is clear that SMU was the worst. Why he seems to enjoy
hammering SMU and usually heaping praise on our rivals is something very odd.

I know for a fact players at UT receive benefits that are in violation for NCAA rules because I have first hand knowledge. I will not say who or what, and I'm not talking about cars or $50,000 cash payments, but to claim strict compliance like the article does is silly. Of course they get gifts/discounts around town, etc. I really don't have a problem with that although I know if our athletes got similar we'd be getting slammed by the NCAA in no time. Nobody in an environment like Austin is really in 100% compliance even if you wanted to be.

If they recruit such high academic kids out of high school, have special academic programs for athletes, why do so few actually graduate? What happened to the prostitute ring scandal that made the Austin American late last year?

Like Nacho asked earlier; what is going on with the Cleve Bryant (Associate A.D.-football) investigation, who resigned, along with his wife, from U.T. this past October? Accused of sexual harassment by a female co-worker, which I believed tied loosely into the prostitute accusation.

Just out of curiosity, who paid for legal representation for players arrested at UT? Would pro bono representation by UT alums constitute an illegal inducement? I didn't see that they were represented by legal aid attorneys. Maybe their parents paid for the attorneys.... Just like Terrell Pryor's mom paid for his multiple vehicles and is making the car payments every month. I will say this, though. Mac Brown over the years has had a reputation for running a clean program. Certainly had that rep at UNC which is why they weren't too sad to see him go.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
