Re: Kickoff luncheon todayAnd I completely disagree with you. Assume for a Moment that the Board, Presidents and administrators of a University want to run a Clean Program. They institute institutional control and make a good faith effort to protect the reputation of a university. Then some [deleted], [deleted] jock-sniffers like at SMU. Miami, USC etc decides he doesn't care what the university wants -he gets his rocks off destroying a football program and university reputation. In fact, he may be a professional agent acting in his own personal self interest. How much damage was done to the reputation of SMU? Baylor? due to their probations. Actual Damages in the 100s of Millions-Reputation Damages-who knows. I know many of the hundreds of people and their families who lost their jobs during the DP through no fault of their own. I have no problem with the State protecting the reputations of their educational institutions. Let these [deleted] rot in jail as far as I'm concerned-they are the Biggest Losers. The Bigger problem is that many states have these laws but none have enforced them

Re: Kickoff luncheon todayYes without question I absolutely believe there are rouge boosters at a bunch of schools. I think it is easily the more common situation. I think the guy at Ohio St was probably a rouge booster-but The Coach handled it poorly once they found out. There is definitely a lot of evidence at USC that the guy was really operating as a professional agent. Again, sometimes the school learns about it later and then is hesitant to report the violation. The probations at OU and Arkansas involving employee-probably a rouge booster who ego needed stroking at State U. Hell SMU had boosters who were recruiting players the Coaches didn't even want-now I know SMU was different but even after SMU disassociated some from the program their little damn ego couldn't keep the Losers away.

Re: Kickoff luncheon todayOf course there will be those who operate on a negative plane, but to think that the ones in charge don't know is unreal. There has been a lot of monkey business at a lot of schools for a long time. If many people in a community know about "infractions," don't you think that the powers that be haven't heard, or chose not to. And that means they are just as guilty in that the choice is to ignore a "problem." At miami, everyone knew who this guy was. At sc, what, people around campus knew, but the AD didn't?? Go Ponies!
Re: Kickoff luncheon todayAnd your evidence that the Board, President or AD knew he was committing substantial violations is what exactly. I've seen some evidence-none that suggest that they had widespread knowledge of the extent or particulars of the cheating. That evidence could surface later-who knows. But the fact they might have known he was a major donor of the program proves nothing with regard to the Death Penalty issue-it might go to whether they can pin sanctions on the school since as a booster he was a representative of the university. Two different issues.

Re: Kickoff luncheon today
that's the attitude and rational that got California in the position it's in w/ it's jail system...there are other ways of dealing w/ this problem that don't involved destroying a person's ability to feed themselves or take care of their family, let along spend time in jail wasting our tax dollars.
