So let's say hypothetically that Baylor and Co. so how thwart A&M's move to the SEC for now. That would leave both A&M and Oklahoma basically being held hostage in a bad relationship. Talk about a dysfunctional conference.

I understand that Baylor has its rights, but A&M doesn't want to be with them, so move on.

That is the likely outcome, but the payment is large and Oklahoma needs to assure its Big 12 conference mates that they are around for the long haul. Big 12 can easily survive losing the Aggies. It can't lose the Sooners.
