When I read a post from any UNT grad, I go, uh oh, here we go again. The fact is that North Texas is not something we think about, worry about, or care about. We are going about making SMU the best athletic program it can be without BCS money, without state taxes, and without a huge student body or alumni base. UNT gets state money, it has a huge student body and even though it is younger than SMU, has more alumni. So, instead of coming onto SMU chat rooms and telling us how great your school is, convince your own folks how great their school is and perhaps, then you might find yourself moving toward greatness.

NTSU produces awesome jazz with their Lab Bands. That's where it ends for me.

so what's the difference between playing Cajun Cream Puff U. and NTSU-at least we'd have a decent crowd and local spotlight-if SMU is afraid of losing that says something right there.

In fact there is something to be gained by playing relevant teams. SMU/NTSU could attract 28,000-30,000 fans plus substantial local attention and a little excitement on the Boulevard. I know some of you all would do anything just to see SMU beat Cream Puff U. so we can go to the Drain-O Toilet Bowl but I hope we can actually build a program with decent attendance that doesn't drain millions from the university every year. Another body bag game which will deflate our attendance figures even more giving bigger conferences every reason to discount SMU. We need to make the argument NOW that we can attract fans to our games. SMU has about 8,000 season ticket holders-TCU has about 22,000. UH has over 20,000. How do you make an argument that SMU should move up unless you have a credible argument.

Love or hate NTSU, they would mean gate on Saturdays, and the Safeway Bowl would be up and running again. Which I guess is why they are on the schedule for four games starting in 2014.

To the OP - the hate that many have on the board is understandable. We are in close proximity to SMU and anytime you have D-1 programs that close, there is always going to be tension. Add in to that equation that rapid growth of the school and the recent prominence achieved through the additions of the law school, the pharmacy school and the continued development of the medical school in Fort Worth and it is obvious that NT has finally become the research university that D/FW has always lacked. Don't get me wrong, SMU and TCU are fantastic institutions, but they are not large research universities. Thus, we are different and we are relatively new since the vast majority of our history has been as a irrelevant teacher's college, then lower-tier 4 year state school. NT had the temerity to rise up and challenge its place in the pecking order. That is going to create some resentment in the establishment. SMU is certainly part of that.

There are many on this board who see that NT should be embraced though. They see the potential of a good-natured athletic rivalry. Many continue to disparage us and mock our recent gridiron failures. This is likely because so recently it was they who were mocked by the likes of Rice laying 57 pts on them, etc. It feels good to be the bully and not the 98lb weakling for once. I get that. Problem is the real strongmen don't need to get off on mocking a Sun Belt team. Every UT/A&M fan I know wishes us well and hopes we turn the corner. Why? Because they know we are no threat to them and probably never will be. Some SMU fans don't see things the same way in connection with NT.

Don't knock the board or SMU. Both are full of good people and they will come around. Just will take some time and good coaching for McCarney. We'll get there.
UNT: The premier research institution of North Texas and only university in D/FW with both medical and law schools! Leading the way for D/FW now and in the future!

Are you one of the conspiracy theorists that believe SMU blackballed NTSU to the Shunned Belt?

Still are, and always will be a lower-tier school. You made your move about 20 years too late. The government is beyond broke, and we're supporting WAY too many state schools. UNT's endowment is nonexistent and you have no way to absorb the HUGE waves of spending cuts that are coming your way. Save your Mean Green apparel -- it will be a collector’s item in 15 years.

A&M doesn't mock you because their $5 BILLION endowment MAKES 10x your endowment BALANCE each year. UNT is irrelevant. As a taxpayer, I'm tired of footing the bill for that waste of space in Denton.

So amazing that your former longtime "most visible" employee, ie, Bill Lively now on the UNT payroll would hardly concur with your a tad over the top comments? Sure Lively is now on the UNT System payroll, but he could still tell you things about UNT's main campus (we have 2 others in Dallas & Fort Worth) that you would hardly be open-minded enough to accept what he would have to tell you. Ignorance is bliss, but in some of your cases, it is ridiculous. Tier One research status is within the University of North Texas' reach according to many down in Austin who would know, so when that happens (and it will) you will have to find something else that also makes you feel good about what you will come up with next about North Texas; who knows, maybe it will be the shade of green we are using.

Time marches on, smu2007, you should consider marching along with it and accepting all the changes it brings, since you seem to have not done that at present.

Good luck against TCU.

Doesn't NTSU have their own board? Why does this thread refuse to die?

Maybe because of ignoramous comments from the likes of smu2007, perhaps?

I understand SMU's plight--everyone in the North Texas Metroplex understands your plight. You people should wake up and join this millenium. It will be different than the last one you seemed to enjoy more.

You people remind me of a certain party in Washington D.C. that spreads horse manure all over the pasture and then they seem to be the very ones who step in it with what they say and how they act. We wuv' you SMU. Is that what you want us to tell you?
