The lei has become a running joke with my group.
It's gotten to the point where we're taking bets during pregame whether he'll wear a lei or not.

Lei stays, so do the black sweats during two-a-days and the black gameday shirt. I'll feel lucky if our players don't have to wear those black jerseys again and play without socks.

watching the game with some friends in DC, and they all pretty much made fun of it, and I didn't have a comeback at all.

He didn't wear the lei in Atlanta while coaching the falcons or in San Diego while coaching the chargers.

But remember this - many of you guys probably wear boots with suits and you don't think much of it if you wear boots up north. Heck, I see guys visiting DC all the time in stetson hats, etc. It's tradition where you're from, and that stupid lei is tradition where he is from.

I think its a little eccentric if you ask me. Why not wear a SMU cap with an embossed lei to honor the Hawaiian tradition? Or wear it under the shirt but it does show a little disrespect to us in Texas at SMU...IMHO

Pretty cool. Count me as a fan of the lei. He doesn't wear socks, he wears a black game shirt, he wears a lei... all of the fashionistas need to move on. Maybe one of the "complainers" should ask him, in person, not to wear the lei. Monday's luncheon at the Radisson starts at 11:30 a.m. and all you have to do is raise your hand and ask. The worst he could say is, "No." Tell him that his wearing a lei really puts a hardship on you in the workplace and in social circles - not knowing what to say and all... of course, you could defend the lei - but that takes guts and, possibly, a sense of humor.
