Not a chance in hell Utah leaves PAC security for Big 12. Glad that we are at least being discussed.

Hrm, interesting to get a mention.

TCU, Houston, SMU, BYU, Utah, Air Force

Utah isn't leaving Pac.
BYU reportedly (at least Chip says) won't join
Air Force rumored target of Big East
TCU already Big East

Leaves you Houston and SMU.

Now comes the job of steadying the Big 12, which teetered similarly when Colorado and Nebraska bolted a little more than a year earlier. Texas A&M also is about to defect, to the Southeastern Conference, and Dodds said a Big 12 expansion committee on which he sits will resume its search for one or more replacements.
"We could do it with nine (schools). I'm a 10-team guy," Dodds said. "If the majority want to go to 12, we're amenable to that, but . . . I think the majority will stay with 10. I've not had conversations with everybody."

How many teams do you want Texas? Tell us how you want us to vote.

If Mizzou is going SEC, B12 may need 4 additions. That may be our chance. I like the academies, but for the life of me i don't see how Air Force can ever compete in the Big 12 though. Pure numbers game, but we probably either have to beat out Houston in the minds of UT, or we need one of BYU or Air Force to say no thanks. Could they possibly go 14? I really doubt it, but after near death experience, maybe they go bigger. In that case, lose Mizzou and add the 6 mentioned (but why would Utah leave Pac?).

It seems logical that UT would rather have a 12 team conference with two divisions than a 10 team conference. In a 12 team league UT would have to play the undesirable opponents such as Kansas St and Iowa St half as much and would play 4 non-conference games instead of 3. 4 Non conference games means one more home game and more revenue.

I've also had a couple of knowledgeable people, one used to be the beat writer in Springs, say pretty emphatically that the whole notion of playing in a BCS conference runs completely counter to what they hope to accomplish through athletics; they likely wouldn't jump to an AQ league. Maybe that changes with all this Armageddon hoopla, but at the time they were pretty adamant about it.

So the Big 10 has 12 teams in it's conference, and the Big Twelve conference may have 10 teams?

Only in college football.

"Certainly the position of Oklahoma State and I think most of the schools, if not all, is that we want to add a 10th team," said Oklahoma State president Burns Hargis, a member of the league's expansion committee. He listed TCU, Houston, SMU, BYU, Utah and Air Force among the potential expansion targets before saying "we've talked about a lot of ideas."

Can we make this a bidding war ? We will crush Houston. Combine that with say a two year moratorium where we take no tv revenue

Could this possibly work?

Major donors pledge to give Big 12 20M Entry Fee
We agree to play half our conference games on LHN
Expand Ford immediately to 52K
Forfeit first 2-3 years of TV revenue
Agree to play either OU or UT at Jerry World

No chance Houston can match that. Although I'm not sure it's even legal.

Why not? Now you're thinking. How can school X make itself most attractive with factors we actually control:

Invest in coach
Invest in infrastructure
Invest in marketing
Invest in support
Invest in facilities

Now, how do you please the almighty Bevo, or other entity? Make it cheap, efficient, enticing, and give them what they want. We would absolutely crush anyone fighting for a spot if it came down to a bidding war.
