Re: Gilbert at practice? How did it work with Robert Griffin? I know he got hurt his sophomore year but is considered a redshirt junior everywhere you look it up. It must be addressed earlier in some specific cases or something. Griffin got hurt in the 3rd game of this true sophomore year and has played two seasons since. It seems to me that this case is somewhat similar to Gilberts. I really don't believe that Gilbert will have more than 2 seasons to play one at SMU.
Re: Gilbert at practice?
I thought that regular eligibility accounted for a possible redshirt year, which Gilbert hasn't had yet, which would be applied to the 2012 Season. This would give him his 4th year playing in 2013. I thought Transfer scenarios always counted the redshirt year as the "year off" when available, but then agian, I could just be making [deleted] up. -CoS
Re: Gilbert at practice?find an example of someone that redshirted after a year counted as a medical hardship. I don't think that is allowed. Here are examples of players who got the medical waiver 6th year after missing 2nd years including a redshirt year and THEN a medical redshirt year:

Re: Gilbert at practice?
Can you show me in the rule on medical waivers where it says anything about about not being able to redshirt after getting a medical hardship? I could not find it.
Re: Gilbert at practice?
While it's true that finding an example would be proof positive that at some point this was how the rule worked, I don't have an example. I'm simply trying to understand the rule. -CoS
Re: Gilbert at practice?does the fact that he graduated already have anything to do with his eligibility?
From Baylor website: Fourth-year junior, athletic, play-making dual-threat quarterback made successful comeback from season-ending knee surgery (ended 2009 season in third game, hardship waiver resulted in redshirt season) to earn 2010 All-Big 12 honors...Graduated from Baylor in December 2010 with a degree in political science three years after enrolling at Baylor. 2009 (Redshirt): Started season's first three games at quarterback before sustaining season-ending knee injury in third game of true sophomore season in 2009... Threw for 481 yards in two-and-one-half games on season (45-for-69 completions) with four TDs and zero interceptions... Also ran for 77 yards and two scores on 27 carries... Threw for 119 yards and rushed for 20 yards and two touchdowns in second game vs. UConn... Suffered non-contact isolated tear to anterior cruciate ligament in right knee during first series of third game of season (ninth quarter of season) vs. Northwestern State... Re: Gilbert at practice?its a 5 year window rule. Griffin will try and should get medical redshirt for 2011. The NCAA treats that year as if it never existed. Same with Gilbert. So Gilbert would be entering his Junior year eligibility wise in 2012 which is a year he must sit out to establish eligibility. Therefore he enters 2013 as a Senior eligibility wise. His 5 years are up. He can't go back and take a hardship waiver for a year he was already entitled to take a medical redshirt.

please explain the bold item in my previous post. Derail the Frogs!
Re: Gilbert at practice?they used improper language. The waiver isn't granted until shortly before 6th season. What Griffin got is commonly referred to as a medical redshirt.

Re: Gilbert at practice?if i were gilbert i would go 1aa.
Re: Gilbert at practice? Is the only circumstance in which he can avoid sitting out a year if he graduates? if so, when must he graduate by to qualify?
Now that my previous statement regarding Gilbert's interest in SMU has been proven correct, I will tell you that one of the other schools on his short list is Boise State. I think that the fact this is a possibility (I know they have talked) shows that Harsin is pretty confident that he can succeed somewhere. Note that his unconditional release was granted after review of his list and this is a real possibility.
Re: Gilbert at practice?Stallion - you keep saying no one can redshirt after they have had a medical waiver. Can you please point us to where in the rules it says this, or even an article that references it? If not, what do you base your assertion on?
Re: Gilbert at practice?Only way I can think that he gets another year is maybe if his rehab carries over into next year and he would of missed the season anyway regardless of transfer. It seems like a stretch and a little shady but that is the only thing I can think of.
