Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUWould really really suck for smu if he went to Houston
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMURGV
What is the picture on you avatar? Is that the Mustang Band at the Cotton Bowl and do you know what year? Just send 'da money.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUThat's the 1983 Cotton Bowl team
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUNow back to the subject matter. (Thanks RGV)
The most success SMU ever had in football was with a coaching staff that was not "lilly white" clean. If you want to play with the big boys, then you better play the same game. Petrino would be a great hire for SMU. He is a winner and knows the college football game. This is the type of hire that would bring me back to SMU football games. Just send 'da money.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUOf course he would leave SMU (or W. Kentucky) if he had success. These are stepping stone jobs, not destinations. That's ok. You hope to continually improve the program until you reach a point where coaches are happy where they are and want to stay. We are lucky that Dallas is a relatively easy sell (I'd think) rather than Kentucky or Idaho.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUWhen Petrino was fired, the Beloved Razorback faithful were very, very upset. The guy was building a real strong winner in NW Arkyland. And he was loved. Folks were more than willing to let the little 'lying to the boss' thing pass.
He wasn't fired in disgrace to the fans. On the contrary, the AD was a villain. Petrino brings baggage to be sure. He is also still loved in Arkyland and one would believe he would be welcomed back under the right circumstances (the guy he lied to is no longer in charge as an example).
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
Jeff Long is still the AD at Arkansas, isn't he? 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUJeff Long is still the AD. And he made a great hire in Bielema. I think that has help soothe the Beloved Razorback Faithfull’s frayed nerves.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
This and the notion that SMU is the best school around drives me crazy. I'm not saying that SMU is not a great university but there are better. Likewise, I'm not saying that SMU lacks attractive coeds, because we do some extremely beautiful girls. But every school has its beautiful women and its pigs. I would argue that the percentage of attractive coeds is higher at SMU, but Arkansas has twice as many students as SMU so I'd say from numbers standpoint Arkansas has more attractive coeds to choose from than SMU. How could they not with twice as many students? And outside a couple of the sorority houses at SMU, the girls are average at best. So if we could hire Petrino and win, he can jiggle his junk in any consenting 18-22 year old coed he wants until 2017 when my daughter is one of those coeds. I mean, seriously, how many of you single guys would balk at an opportunity to hook up with a cute coed? And SMU has no policy prohibiting consensual relationships between staff and students, so no harm, no foul. Let's just win and fill Ford. Ponyfans.com voice of reason
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUDisclaimer: A daughter is a Beloved Razorback Tri-Delta (Petrino's squeeze was a U of A Tri-Delta).
I have spent some time around U of A’s Sorority Row during game day. And some time enjoying the tailgating experience. So I have had a great opportunity to observe the talent. The U of A could be 100X larger than SMU and still would come up with less hot babes than on the Hilltop.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
You could be the father in law of the coach. Ergo, vis a vis, some other latin words... you could tell the coach what to do. Leader of the Band-itos.

Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUNot sure why an SMU person would have a problem with what is pretty factual about SMU being the best school around. We are about even with UT, and exceeded only by Rice in the state of Texas - based on all available third party information. None of the other Texas schools are really all that close. That does not drive me crazy, but makes me proud. If we could only get our football and basketball teams to hit that level of quality relative to their peers.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
It seems that the only accurate thing here is that he is, in fact, loyal to his friends. Of course, he's loyal to Timmy Chang, too, and he's 31. He's loyal to Derrick Odum, and he's what ... 40-something? He's loyal to his players, none of whom is approaching 60. If you think he's loyal, you don't know him at all. He just doesn't run to the DMN every time he does anything. He's not afraid to talk about his accomplishments in interviews, but he doesn't seem to be someone who feels the need to brag. He's far from perfect. We all are. But based on stories from people who know him (inside and outside of SMU, it seems that calling him lazy is just foolish.
Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMU
Forbes lists SMU behind Rice, Trinity, and UT. US News lists SMU behind Rice and UT. I'm fine with that and like I said, SMU is a great university. It's just that some of us act like it's the best university in the country and it is not. It's like saying University of South Carolina has the best football program in the country. They are damned good but not even the best in their division. I am proud of both of my degrees from SMU but I realize there are better universities within reasonable driving distance. Re: Interesting note on Bobby Petrino at SMUHe'll stick around if he comes to SMU. No one has as many hot babes as we do. A virtual smorgasboard for BP.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
