I care! I'm sick of getting blown out by teams people have actually heard of. MS has a number of Texans on their roster, and I think we are the only D1 team on their schedule. They will be out of their minds sky high for us.

Agreed. Not caring about the non conference games is crazy talk.

Everyone should care. Beating the good OCC teams is the only way this team becomes relevant again

The last couple of games Montana State v. FBS teams:

2011 v. Utah 27-10
http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=312440254
Utah finished the year (which was their first year in the PAC-12) with an 8-5 record with a victory over Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl. Utah took an early lead and played fairly conservatively, but Montana State had flashes where they moved the ball well and played solid defense.

2010 v. Washington State 23-22
http://espn.go.com/ncf/recap?id=302540265
Heartbreaker! WSU had a rough year in 2010 beating only MSU and Oregon State. The week after WSU beat the Bobcats, they lost a game in Dallas to SMU. (35-21)

I was lucky enough to be able to travel to both of these games, and really enjoyed myself. It's fun to be around the big college football games and both host team's fans were very hospitable. McGhee was arguably the best quarterback on the field both games. McGhee's a senior this year, and shows well in many Bobcat and Big Sky Conference records.

Personally, I think this year's team is better in almost all areas than both the 2010 and 2011 teams, except maybe kicking. I won't get to detailed, I'm not a good enough writer or football analyst to do that, and people get payed for that stuff. I was really hoping to get to Dallas this year, as I think this year's squad has as good a chance of beating a good FBS team as MSU has had for quite a while. I guess I'll catch it on ESPN3, which sucks as all the rest of our games are on regular broadcast TV.

If Appalachian state can beat Michigan in the big house I won't rule out an upset by an fcs team until the game is well in hand.

That was last season....

Don't think you're going to be able to count on 7 interceptions from the defense, plus three fumble recoveries, PLUS two field goal blocks, like we had that day. I still can't figure out how in a 52-0 game, someone can walk away feeling bad about the offense of the team that scored the 52 points.....but SMU proved it possible that night.

Not to mention big time success in our non conference schedule will have this team of younger players sky high for the conference run. It sound like our speed and size is at a level we haven't seen before. All they need is the confidence.

BIG SKY

The Matchups (17) - Cal Poly at Fresno State (Sept. 7) and Colorado State (Sept. 14); Eastern Washington at Oregon State (Aug. 31) and Toledo (Sept. 14); Idaho State at Washington (Sept. 21) and Brigham Young (Nov. 16); Montana State at SMU (Sept. 7); Northern Arizona at Arizona (Aug. 30); Northern Colorado at Wyoming (Sept. 14); Portland State at California (Sept. 7); Sacramento State at San Jose State (Aug. 29) and Arizona State (Sept. 5); Southern Utah at South Alabama (Aug. 29) and Washington State (Sept. 14); UC Davis at Nevada (Sept. 7); Weber State at Utah (Sept. 7) and Utah State (Sept. 14)

Dateline, Upset City? - Montana State at SMU (Sept. 7). It will be another Texas homecoming for some of the Bobcats, including the offensive and defensive leaders, quarterback DeNarius McGhee and linebacker Na'a Moeakiola, respectively, who helped lead Trinity High in Euless to a 2008 state title.

Of Note - Four Big Sky teams posted wins over FBS opponents last season: Eastern Washington (Idaho); Sacramento State (Colorado); Northern Arizona (UNLV); and Cal Poly (Wyoming) ... Montana State canceled a much anticipated game at two-time defending FCS national champion North Dakota State to secure the SMU matchup on Sept. 7.

Don't get me wrong Alex I am absolutely fed up with getting blown out by any average bcs team, HOWEVER, if I were to chose between beating tech and then losing to say, Memphis, to put us out of the conference hunt, this year I'd gladly concede wins against these OOC teams if we can actually win the conference.

Obviously, ideal is winning them all...

The offense looks like one of the better ones I've seen at MSU. At least thus far the wide receivers and RB's along with our line and QB seem to be seriously clicking. We have taken quite a few injuries on offense though so we're spread pretty thin there.

If you guys take Montana State too lightly, they will beat you. See what happened to us last year, see also Baylor when Sam Houston was spanking them for half the game until they woke up, see what happened when Virginia Tech didn't take James Madison seriously, see what happened when Ole Miss didn't take Jacksonville State seriously, and most famously see what happened when Michigan didn't take Appalachian State seriously, hell ARMY didn't take Stony Brook seriously (they even admitted it after the game) and many many other examples when an FBS team takes an FCS team too lightly.

I was terrified when I saw this team scheduled. I grew in Boulder, and CU lost to Montana St and the town was embarrassed for months. That game really signaled the downfall of CU's program.
