Attendance - 10,107??? Really???Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I'm saying there's a lot people than on the box score!
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I thought there were more then 10,000 to. I figured somewhere around 15 to 18,000. And I am certain that our crowd size reflects on our football recruitment. Most of the best players want to play for big crowds.
As for basketball, our crowds seem to fill up Moody Coliseum better and are louder then at Ford Stadium. As for the cheer, I didn't know they were doing an organized cheer. If you want to organize cheers you need to hand out papers or something. I go to watch a game and am ignorant about cheers. (I do my own cheers when we score, sack, make first downs, etc. Do more of that and Ill cheer more).
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???
Which facts do you dispute? We've met Bill, so I have no idea what "if that is something you are capable of doing" even means. If it's a slight, [gary patterson] you too. I've emboldened the portion of my original post that you evidently missed. I didn't go all the way to 104 because you guys are too far away to hear it in the beginning. I know you guys in 104 rock but you're too far from the student section to hear them to get it started. I've been in 104 when the students try to do this, you just can't hear them from where you're at. Also, I don't work for SMU, I'm a private fan. I'm not printing out 32,000 fliers, sorry. I feel going section by section and telling 200-250 people what to do and when to do it is sufficient. I looked over and the groups I told did nothing. Every year for the past three, I've re-coordinated this with each incoming Mistang XI. For two years I've reached out to SMU cheer leading and even got them to print two sided Red/Blue Pony/Up signs to help the crowd out. The cheer squads have known about it. The students are so excited to do this but I'm just pissed that 200-250 fans knew what was going on, but ignored it. It's not about them not doing "my cheer", it's leaving the students hanging. If I didn't go to your section, 105 and below, or you did not hear me, I'm not criticizing you. I'm criticizing the people I looked in the face, told them what the students were doing and when but decided to ignore. Last edited by SMUer on Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:01 am, edited 3 times in total.
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???SMUer - I appreciate what you are trying to do. However, obviously few in the stadium know about the cheer. I stand by my comment that I never knew of it. If SMU is going to do 'a cheer' as you described word needs to get out somehow, someway.
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I've talked to the cheer leading squad and Mustang XI organizer, that's enough. SMU athletics knows about it as well. They know who I am, how to reach me if they want to coordinate something. They've got bigger fish to fry. It's been feebly happening for three seasons. I honestly don't care enough about it to put any more effort into it than I have. If it doesn't work, okay. Again, it's not about "my cheer", it's the a-hole fans that totally ignored helping out the students when I told them exactly what they were trying to do. I know, I know, if you guys would've heard it, you would've cheered. I'm not talking about the 2,000 die-hards on here. I'm talking about the lame-[gary patterson] fans who we need to engage but obviously have no interest in cheering for SMU. I'm (probably) not calling out anyone on here.

Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???
They definitely had more fans at the game than our CUSA brethren would have at our games. Wonder if we would have had as many fans at a game up there as they had at Ford on Saturday? Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???Surely you jest.
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I was there, no way 10,000 is correct, It looked like 15,000-16,000 easily. And Montana St had a nice showing of 1,500-2,000. I expected a smaller crowd with the heat.
Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???
I actually could here that cheer during the ESPN3 telecast.
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???there were about 15k who decided not to show when Montana State was substituted for Baylor
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???
Agreed. West side was pretty full, decent student section, and likely 2-3k on the east side. I actually thought a fair number of fans come out when you consider it was 100 degrees, an FCS team, and droves of people staying at home in protest to dropping Baylor (not to mention the "fans" Coach Jones has lost). Pony up!
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I talked to a few new attendees last night including one who was at his first game. He was very impressed and the last second win was very excitingvto him. Those that are not avid football followers may have found last night to be a great fame rather than one we almost gave away and maybe some will come back.
That is my silver lining for the week. Next weeks silver lining is the open date. We gave never lost against them. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???I think it's funny that people expect fans to come out to watch a 500 team at best play Montana State, a school that no one even on this board had probably heard of before the Baylor drop.
People don't go see unknown opponents, particularly when the game is relatively irrelevant for SMU. How many examples do you need?
Re: Attendance - 10,107??? Really???It was definitely exciting. It might be the most exciting game of the week in college football.
