Houston was one of the dirtiest but being a lo-profile team, it minimized them on the NCAA 's radar screen. In other words they were just damn lucky.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Of course we love to reminisce about the glory days, but nostalgia is preventing the powers that be from seeing what we really are. Deon, Eric and anyone with any influence needs to pursue Jimmy Johnson into coming out of retirement. Period. Jimmy would have the respect of HS coaches in TX and Dallas would flock to see Jimmy's return. And please don't tell me that we don't already have a model in place to make this work (see basketball program).

Houston was one of the dirtiest programs in the country in the 70s and 80s. Bill Yeoman perfected the art of cheating.

SMU is obviously not the least bit innocent but if there is one school who can't question SMU's methods it''s UH!

Not to defend Cougar King who is out of line because much of SMUs history and success/glory did not take place during the mid 80s, but UH isn't trying to re-live the past. They are trying to re-brand themselves. It's another thread, but what would the Vegas line be if we played UTSA or Texas St or UNT on a neutral field today?. I wouldn't bet my mortgage payment. After all that the University, it's donors and those that love SMU have spent (Ford, Boulevard, 2M/yr head coach), and all of the time and effort put into this thing...this is where we are at? Perhaps someone from Cox should be in charge because this is no way to run a business, and folks it's a business.

Actually Barry Switzer is who I would want and if he ever got the inclination to coach, I believe he would love To come to SMU. I love Barry, he is the best at wowing the kids with his personality. And he loves Dallas.. and he is always here hocking his wine! :D

Someone like Switzer would work. Look, we're always gonna be the underdog - we need someone leading this team and program that has a 'we're the underdog, but we're gonna smash them in the helmets' (without drawing a penalty) type of mentality that loves Dallas vs 'Aloha, SMU...let's chill ya'll'.

Posted this on a different thread as well, but 2 names I like are:Mike Sherman or Pete Mangurian.

While I like the young enthusiastic coach idea we need someone who already has street cred (love the Jimmy idea, but no way he is coming out of retirement) and both these guys have TX ties, bring young good coaches with them and have NFL cred., which is something JJ also brought.

Plenty.

And plenty that were not. Your point? (rock pile conveniently located to your right, right by the glass house...)
