That doesn't change the fact that the new system will have less access for those outside of the new P5. They've really just taken away the AAC bid and shared it with all of the G5, and shut the back door qualification rules for non-AQ. That is not better access for us.

Again, it would have been taken away anyway due to not meeting BCS standards. They had the grade deferential on an article and it was bad. So we would have been a non BCS team with no guaranteed access to the 6 major bowls. They have it so at least there is a guaranteed spot but not limited to that. They would NOT have keep the AAC as a BCS team even if no playoff had been added.

1. Fire June
2. start winning 9-10 games a year
3. Become a top 25 team preseason
4. Run the table while beating 2-3 solid P5 teams (TCU, Baylor, etc)
5. Playoffs???

I have to believe if the new playoff system is successful, the NCAA will expand the field. Once the NCAA smells money, the powers to be will sell their mother if it means more dollars in their pocket. They did it in basketball why not football.

Not true. Not many Cinderella teams win the national championship on hoops. Just look at the last 3 champs are UConn, Kentucky and Louisville. Those are all heavyweights. Glad basketball does not leave it up to computer polls and coaches(that don't have time to watch all the games) polls. Basketball solves it on the court not opinion polls and one offs.

Agreed. There's a reason March Madness gets massive ratings even though college basketball is nowhere near as popular as college football

Wake me up when we go undefeated and can complain we aren't getting a shot at the NC. Until then, I'm out of this conversation.

FIFY

This is really the way to go. But we will never be added to the playoffs not even going 12-0 and having toughest OOC. They will find a way to put us in #5 if that happens, just for being in a have-not conference. The best hope is to be picked up by a power money conference if those conditions you mention start happening.

You know, they said a team like Utah or Boise State would never play in a BCS bowl. Then Utah played in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl and Boise State played in the 2007 Fiesta.

Then they said BCS would never allow two non-AQs into BCS bowls at the same time. Then TCU played Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.

A non-AQ team then played in the Grandaddy of Them All when TCU played Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

So don't be so sure that the new playoff format will automatically exclude teams from the Group of Five. If there's an undefeated team that's played at least a somewhat legitimate schedule, there will be tremendous pressure on the selection committee to not appear exclusionary. An undefeated season has always spoken volumes for a team.

It's not out of the question that an undefeated team from the AAC or Mountain West, with some wins over P5 teams on its record, could get into the top four. Underdogs and upsets are what make the NCAA Tournament popular, and the people running football are aware of that. They're going to make billions regardless.
