Had to take a pause from the Hawaii vacay to slap some sense into some of you. We are 3-9 next year at best. Look at our QB, WR, and inside LB situation. All are extremely questionable and that alone downgrades us from last year when we had the best QB and WR play we've had post DP (and possibly ever, statistically at least) and even then we could only squeak out 5 wins. We beat UConn, Temple and MAYBE UNT. That's about it folks. Baylor will be a massacre as will aTm. And this just kills me to type and believe. But that's where I'm at.

Ok, back to the beach.

There's been very little criticism of June's recruiting since they apparently decided to do their Texas state recruiting tour. Haven't seen the huge recruiting fumbles we saw in for example 2013 when we dropped the ball with several interested Dallas prospects. They've been given the benefit of the doubt by most. The problem will be that any improved 2015 recruiting ain't going to show up for a long time. As said above-June made his bed in 2012-2014 and now he's in a big hole to dig out

My opinions are strong but not so freely expressed as some. But it looks to me like the time to evaluate JJs recent efforts is when the 2015 LOIs are signed and we see how many have offers from other than second an third tier schools. And that is not even thinking about the fact that he is likely gone after this season and that the next coach may not have any place for a lot of these kids whether or not they are homegrown.

yeah June's not likely to have the SMU job by signing date. You're right you judge by the recruiting class signed on SIGNING DATE(s)-that is signing date 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Come on Ojai, we have a 4 star QB transfer that is eligible for 3 years, a 3 star LB transfer from Rice, our RB corps is returning with Pope, Line and KC + Gresham, OL is better than last year, super deep and solid Dline and our WR are young and we add the Duke Lax player at Wideout. I see this as one of the better teams in the hilltop post DP. Next year watch out.

Our wide receiver play last year was better than with sanders, aldrick and beasely? Am I the only one who disagrees with this?

I know you are a complete troll but lest domeone believe your garbage:
We had a 5 star transfer, he did nothing until he had a year under his belt. A Rice transfer impressed nobody, and at RB you cite one guy who hasn't even been playing RB and then some big bags of "shown nothing thus far"

Predicting a win over Temple (we don't play them this season) was a dead giveaway.

I think Nwoso is going to be a big addition. I think Matt Davis is a square peg in a round hole-I don't see June utilizing his skills well based on his past-maybe the next coach will though. The Duke Lacrosse player is a long shot to make a substantial contribution

But if we have a solid season this year (7-8 wins, or beat TCU or A&M and eek out a bowl), then I think June is 110% back and expectations will be high for 2015: entire starting OL returning, junior QB (either Burcham or Davis) returning, all WRs returning I believe except for Der'Rikk, and lots of returners on the defense as well (Yenga, Seals, Wood, Minor, the entire secondary except Greenbauer, etc). Remember, we don't graduate many this year.

June has about $4-6M in future paychecks riding on what he can do in 2014. It should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

You are actually getting me a bit excited about SMU football! … and I, like many of you, cannot help it. After all we are SMU fans to the very end, and As much as many of us want JJ out, I cannot help but root for the guy to make a big comeback for SMU football, and build some momentum. Hope springs eternal...

Why anyone who is excited about an aggie washout WhO DIDNT EVEN START THE WHOLE YEAR ON HIS JUCO TEAM is beyond me.

Is everyone forgetting that the man than FINALLY made our offense work after 6 years, Hal Mumme, is gone? Gilbert's inadequacy at being accurate was masked by mumme's air raid integration with all the short routes. He finally gave us an offense and a QB to be proud of and he's gone.....

Maybe June will keep some of that stuff around, probably not, but maybe I guess. That's still probably not Davis skill set.

Re Davis: Maybe but given where June is with his situation and the need to really win (if he really wants to keep his job) don't be stunned if this season looks out of the ordinary.

Still an upgrade from the Bennett 4 yard run, 3 yard run, incomplete pass, quick-kick punt
