In 1996, if we had made just one extra point or field goal in the entire game against Missouri at the Cotton Bowl, Rossley might still be the SMU HC today

I remember just randomly asking the great Tom Rossley for a sideline pass to that New Mexico game after a practice that week and he left a damn sideline pass with his secretary for me to pick up the day before the game. He had no idea who the hell I was, other than just being a pony fan making a ridiculous request. I still have that pass. I ended up in the celebration pile in the endzone after that game winning pass and I will never forget it. I was buried underneath this huge pile of players in the endzone celebration and remember thinking if I get crushed to death right now it would be a hell of a great way to go. He was so approachable and such a nice guy.

Tom Rossley was indeed greatness and I remember he hated the color purple because he hated the frogs so much. He used to like to say "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity" How cool.

Thanks Coach Rossley.

I saw in person that last chance pass against UNM :!: I was recording it on VHS, and watched it
till the tape binded up after I got home.

Rossley was a great coach, and had much worse ups n downs than JJ. His record is much worse
than JJ's :!:

New athletic director fired Rossley after a 5-6 year to prove he was a stud. Dohpey was
his name :!:

Young JJ haters need to study up on total history of SMU football before being qualified to fire a
coach :!: :!: :!:
May the forth be with us.

Didn't he play against tougher teams than JJ?

If I remember correctly, Missouri also ran back a blocked PAT for two points. Stopping it would have won the game for us.

The Mustang Club meetings with Rossley in Ownby the day before home games were pure greatness as he talked about the game plan the next day. That year we beat TCU at the Cotton Bowl on a Thursday night if memory serves me right, he had told us that morning, we would be running a fake punt........and sure enough we did. Great guy to talk to compared to the last 3 coaches.
