UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....To earlier poster, their lab jazz bands are considered at or above international professional standards. Very few ensembles anywhere compare to them. Just sayin.

Pardon me, but if you're using herman cain for any other reason besides satirical comedy for your avatar, you lose all rights to the seat upon your high horse.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....It is satire. I put it up in the midst of his sex scandal, and now it's an integral part of my online identity so I can't change it

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....maroons - you are exactly right - i just meant there were some cultural and geographical similarities between SMU and TCU. I realize the schools are on different levels academically.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....Some pretty good laughs to be had in this thread.
No, we are not your rivals, although some of our older fans hate you with a passion. A rivalry takes 2. Frankly, we have bigger fish to fry than SMU, and I'm sure you feel the same way about UNT. That said, you aren't TCU's freaking rival. Those that think you are should get with our alums that think we are your rivals and have a huge inferiority complex party. Realize what you are and work to improve. I really hope you guys show up more than 100 strong this weekend. You will have a good time, see a nice small stadium, and quite possibly crap your pants when you see what is happening with our attendance (or not, it will be interesting) and our defense.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
Overall series is something like 46-40-7 TCU, and we play every year. The last two times we beat them (2005 and 2011) we cost them a BCS bowl berth. Yes, they've passed us by with their Big 12 affiliation but there's no reason we can't be competitive with them in the future if we get a coach who can actually recruit and wants to be here. Talk to any TCU person if you don't believe me: they HATE SMU. They might hate Baylor or Tech more now, but there's a lot of vitriol towards SMU in their fanbase (and likewise in ours towards them). You'd be hard pressed to find many SMU people who have an opinion one way or another about UNT. 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....I must say I do find all the vitriol UNT fans have towards SMU as odd. I mean, they're always going to be at least one rung below us in the conference realignment totem pole, so shouldn't they root for us to do as well as possible and move up to the big leagues so they can take our spot in the AAC and fill the DFW market void? Perhaps that involves a little too much critical thinking for them, though...

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
agreed. we have absolutely no similarities to unt, except we're now peers in football. ![]()
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....
Delusional and smug. If we are waiting for you to leave the AAC for a P5, we better get used to CUSA for the rest of our football existence. Realize what you are and work to improve.

100 would be pretty impressive considering what happened last week and the start time. 50 is more likely and 25 of those will be gone by halftime. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

I know. I've seen your home attendance.
Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....It's pretty funny how much UNT hates us- What did we do to them? I might have to go to the game now just to talk [deleted] wearing boat shoes and a monogrammed shirt.

Probably stiffed them on tips at a hotel or coffee shop. I hear service types get pissy when you do that. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: UNT is SMU's RIVAL.....Are we rivals? I would say no. Could this develop into a true rivalry? Yes I think so. I think both schools need to forget the past and realize that both schools can benefit from playing each other. Let's face it this isn't the old SWC days and both schools regularly playing each other will generate some talk and interest as well as increase attendance. And no I don't believe the student bodies have to have similarities in order to consider two schools to be rivals. I think there are serious misconceptions on both sides but IMO at the present time both schools can benefit from playing each other.
