This is the firm we want leading the search to get our next head coach here.
In case you do not know he also was responsible for getting Jones to ASU which of course crumbled before consummation. I would think conflict of interest would come into play at some point in time, but maybe not.
I agree, but also he did get Baylor the right coach. June seemed right for us at the moment...right up to the ASU fiasco.
I have trouble with someone who helps me select a coach and then keeps shopping him elsewhere. That is just me.[/quote] Isn't that the same treatment you would get from any law firm anyways? They're never committed to a client. Every big time school uses E&B and other firms. Look at their successes. Yes we were in the butt end of the ASU fiasco but doesn't take away that they got Briles to BU and Graham to ASU.

That's their job, though. Their duty to SMU ended the day the contract was fulfilled and they cashed our last check. To be honest, I don't even have that big of a problem with Jones and his agent going after the ASU job. I do have a problem with the fact that he wasn't canned the day he started recruiting for them but that's a different story. Heck, shopping coaches it what agents and these search firms do - there is no loyalty in the coaching business on either side... every coach is expendable and every school can be a stepping stone. Jimmy Sexton isn't one of the best in the business because his clients are loyal to the schools they're at... he's one of the best in the business because he constantly gets his clients' names mentioned in other coaching searches and gets them more money, as a result.

beudine was hired by ASU and then subsequently tried to push june on them - leading to the last three years of misery. I know that's his job - but when does his past work for us (and big fees) mean something? He was not involved with LB. I would pass on the guy personally.

P5 teams hire these ppl out...I would think they know what they are doing.

I know how the games are played. There are just some games I do not like. This was one of them. My problem , no one else's.

As an alum, I wouldn't allow my company to do anything for a client that would jeopardize SMU's success on the field. Removing the best coach in the last 25 years from the equation would have fallen under that rule. Sorry, I'm a little more loyal to my school than that. There are other clients and other coaches out there. That BS should have marked them off our list for good.

As a rule, there are generally "No Touch" clauses for several years after these guys place someone. They cannot solicit that coach or recommend that coach for another position. That is a standard part of the agreement when they get hired. It all depends on the initial consulting agreement. The longer the time period, the higher the fee. For example, they bring us Chad Morris (for the sake of argument), they cannot turn around at the end of the first season and shop him to A&M. Three years later, he is fair game.

June was an employee under contract. How was that not tortuous interference on behalf of beudine, Atty?

Jones was given permission to talk to ASU

While I have not seen June's contract, I would be every penny I own that there was an "out" built into it. I have heard that he had a $2M buyout Provided the buyout was paid, June was free to leave.

The real problem with the ASU fiasco wasn't that JJ was leaving...it's that he was recruiting kids to go to him to ASU and when his offer got pulled he came crawling back here.

I'm glad Beaudine was shopping June around. Had they been able to place him somewhere else, we could have avoided the last three years of misery.
