I am certainly going to give Mason and the staff the benefit of a chance to prove themselves. I am delighted he has them out recruiting. And as to those who are complaining why were they not recruiting when JJ was their boss, how many of you who have bosses freelance? What if your boss tells you to go watch film for 12 hours. Do you say NO - I am going to go recruiting! Of course not. Now, I do not know what JJ did or did not have them doing, but I am sure not going to assume they could just go off on their own and recruit. I say "Way to go Mason."

They also might be responding to that DMN article a few days ago about them not being visible locally.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but SMU needs to honor any offers that this staff puts out. It's a tough sell, but kids that want to work hard and get an education are out there. No matter who the coach is.

I have to believe that the current staff is under instructions not to make any offers until a new staff is in place. They can observe, make their presence known, and let players know there is interest but it would be unfair to any new staff to be making offers now that might not be honored later.

I wonder if June told those left behind they could go ahead and martyr him to bolster their job prospects going forward.. Maybe he told them to tweet, scout, recruit like they wanted to all along but blame the previous lack of effort on him

we are in a strange situation this early in the year. I would hope we can hire someone before Nov to get on track with recruiting.

either he was muffling them or they know they need to pick it up to find new jobs.

SMU needs to let the new guy decide what he wants to do about outstanding offers/commits. Our current commits really need to start exploring all their options if they aren't already.

Disagree. Anyone we want is going to be coaching for a good team into December/January. Unless we hire a HC from a big school (unlikely) who can bring his class with him, our class is mostly going to be the guys we have plus a few others

Bottom line: I want the best coach for the long term instead of the guy who can hit the recruiting trail early.

we aren't going to have a head coach until at least mid December-we likely won't interview until after Thanksgiving because they are employed and are not free to talk with us w/o permission. If you were an AD or Head Coach would you let a Head Coach or Coordinator talk to another school during the season?
