Re: The Anti-JuneOn a positive note, I will admit, I watched Chad's introduction and have to say I was impressed. I do believe the guy is going to go after it with his whole heart for nothing else than to be the next Head Coach of Texas in 3 years after the Charlie Strong debacle...
My worry is the negative note, I've experienced the same media/fan praise, same snake oil pitch, and same high hopes before... "New SMU coach Phil praised for preparation, recruiting".(The Dallas Morning News) - Google it.
Re: The Anti-June
Whataburger is a Texas thing...not available in SC. In other words, he is glad to be back in Texas. ![]() SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: The Anti-Junephil had nothing to work with... No comparison. And all he did was yell..
Re: The Anti-June
I love your new avatar, if only you could change your profile name.
Re: The Anti-June
(Note, what follows is in no way a slight to Coach Morris - he's one of the top up and coming coaches in the country and I'm damn glad to have him) One of the problems some seem to have is that they live in some fantasy world where SMU was going to have huge name, highly successful coaches lining up for the job. The reality is that we probably actually outkicked our coverage in getting Coach Morris... he's turned down much bigger jobs than ours recently. We got him because he's a native Texan that wanted to come home to coach. If there hadn't been a Chad Morris out there, we probably would have been going to plan b and plan c type candidates already because, to be blunt, nobody that would have been a "splash" would have been interested. In essence... we were in the right place at the right time. He wanted to come home to Texas to be a head coach... and we're a Texas program with plenty of resources (if we just decide to use them).
Re: The Anti-June
Strong is on his way to building Texas back up. Year 1 was all about the culture change.
Re: The Anti-June
There is plenty of talent on my Dragons to recruit and Cedar Hill usually has some as well. #Beat Clemson
Re: The Anti-JuneSo what is the benchmark that triggers Chad Morris as having surpassed June Jones accomplishments? A top 30 recruiting class ranking? A signature win against a respectable P-5 team? Going to 5 mid-level bowls? Winning the American? Winning the American & going to a BCS Game?
Re: The Anti-June

Re: The Anti-June
Let's keep it simple. Win Don't alienate fans by acting above everybody and If you're going to Bigger-Better-Deal us for somebody don't shoot yourself in the foot and your employer in the back by screwing up the deal. Fair enough?
Re: The Anti-JuneJust win (the conference)
Re: The Anti-JuneAllen is just another soulless northern burb with a fancy broken toy stadium.
Ford's location, capacity, and setting is vastly superior to that monument to taxpayer idiocy in Allen. Back off Warchild seriously.
The Anti-JuneI was finally able to watch the presser last night, I now understand the Whataburger comment.
We as Mustangs have been down this road so many times in the last 20+ years you have doubts with anyone the school hires but this one feels different. I am not wearing rose colored glasses and I do not have visions of grandeur but I am pumped that Chad Morris is our new HC. His connections in HS coaching circles is second to none. He is genuinely happy to be here and back in Texas. It is incredible how 100% opposite this man, thankfully, is of the former head coach who shall be nameless. Hopefully CM is the one who will be able to turn around the program. See you all on the BLVD in September!!! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: The Anti-JuneI met JJ only once, at one of the early-on parties. He was standing alone and appeared to be bored. I introduced myself and told of my history with SMU football and thanked him for being here. He responded with a simple expressionless "Thank you". Seeing this conversation was dead I walked away leaving him still standing alone.
I expect a much different response from HCCM if I am ever privileged to meet him. Long live Inez Perez!
