Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?I think they are floating Dykes to get us to feel better about Traylor

Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
This is Stallion’s rationale for trying to keep that once a 20-year good hire happy. Is it throwing good $$$ after bad?, maybe Does it prevent a SEC move? doubtful You do it anyway because you know when you have a homerun hire and our P5 window is oh so small. Just look at the responses to Dykes. Case Closed.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
A lot would second that motion. For those of us who don't twit, any copy and paste would be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
If it doesn't effect the outcome it's wasted money. It sucks, but doesn't change the reality. Making them feel super loved along the way will not keep them from bolting.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon? Is it too late to beg Craddock to come back

Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?I'm fine with Traylor. The players like him, the recruits know him, and he has the Texas recruiting connections.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
Of course when you are throwing the money (not mine, I realize) you do not know the pursuers or the outcome.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?i have no idea if this guy is ready...
it would be a pretty risky decision. but an interesting video either way Mustangs on the Road - Jeff Traylor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew0k9Qau9sw C-ya @ Milos!
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?I doubt anyone on this board would argue with the" three - four good hires in many years of trying," and I know too little and am too distant to offer a name.
Many years ago - circa 1952 or '53 - SMU had a chance to hire Frank Broyles and picked Chalmer Woodard instead. I do believe that decision, much as anything as has happened since, put SMU on a path from which we've never really escaped. I hope someone who knows more will compare Broyles then and Traylor today. Maybe it would prove to be another instance of hoping to find "lightning in a bottle" to quote another poster a few years back but SMU is not going to get a head coach with a 66.3 % lifetime winning record at a P5 college.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Traylor's interview on Ponyfans last Spring is still pretty telling as to what that guy can bring to the table. And unlike CM who moved from high school to high school Traylor stayed at Gilmer for a long time so maybe he would stay here for a long time if he gets the job. I am not saying he is the best fit but he is an interesting option to weigh.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?I think Traylor will become the RB coach at Arkansas
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?Anyone that has never been a head coach in college is a risk, so if we are going the assistant route then Traylor seems the best bet to me. If we can lure a sure thing current head coach I would prefer that, but I don't see that happening.
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
Unless he is offered the HC position at SMU. If the players have any say, he just might get that offer. If they hire someone else before the bowl game, I would agree he could be gone and would probably serve as Chad's leading E. Texas recruiter
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
If we hired a defensive minded coach, we could sell Traylor on the idea that it would be “his” offense going forward. If he wants to be a HC someday, our OC job is the better choice. He is inheriting a lot of talent. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Is the AD floating a Traylor trial balloon?
I could be sold on that scenario if they could find the right guy and Traylor was named associate HC/OC and SMU could pay Traylor the same kind of money that Arkansas might offer but who in the world is "that guy"?
