It very well could!!!
I'd like to think every SMU football fan knows that is the case, but the problem is there are just too few of us. SMU just might compete for the AAC title this season, but unless we can pack Ford with 30k or more for EVERY home game, including Abilene Christian, then success on the field just might not matter to the folks steering future conference realignments.
I agree but think it’s actually worse than that. You have to win,* pack the stadium, *and* bring a boatload of t-shirt fans. *Unless you are UT. Then mediocrity will suffice because of your huge army of t-shirt fans.

I do believe the Dallas campaign could be successful for bringing in t-shirt fans. Look back at the Pony Express era when we still had a tough time filling Texas Stadium but there were a lot more college football fans interested in what Dickerson & James were doing on Saturdays.

Winning does make a difference. But more than 2-3 seasons will be required and it would help if we were in the Big XII. Plus the Cowboys will have to be losing.

I don’t know if we really compete with the Cowboys in that sense. Worth thinking about.

Don’t know if there was a direct correlation or not but in the 60’s, the Cowboys were on an upswing and the Mustangs were on a downswing.

Our family moved to Dallas in 1959 in the same neighborhood as Tom Landry and Hayden Fry. Cowboys were horrible when they started and to attract fans, they sold end zone seats for $5 and you could bring 5 kids under age 18 with a single full paying adult. Great early memories for me and I've been a lifelong Cowboys fan because of it. Would love to see SMU adopt that same strategy to fill the end zones and possibly create some fans who might never attend SMU.

I'm a Cowboys fan too. But I have soured on the NFL. The Mustangs are still my favorites.

Don’t give a rip about the NFL. I get enough on Friday nights and Saturdays.

pb- agree. I haven't watched a NFL or NBA game in over 6 years. I quit when they turned a sport into a political event..

Jerry Jones soured my enthusiasm for the Cowboys.

Same and same. Politics has also soured me on ESPN, but that’s a slightly different subject.

I don’t watch any pro sports any more when I’m alone and not in a group. However I get excited watching all college or high school sports. All the pro sports went political.

Caps and Nationals I watch (although since the Nats did a roster dump, hard to watch them). NFL good nap noise although changing the Redskins name was not good from a fan perspective. NBA no way.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
