Tech, Tulane and ECU are the three games I hope are watching against the coogs. Tech losing to TCU would suggest a good sign for us. Tulane was only down 4 points mid through the 4th quarter before Houston got the space they needed plus a garbage time TD at the end. ECU sent them into overtime which one could argue the rain delay was an anomaly.
I think if we can replicate that first half performance against Tulane, this should be a solid win.
First half: 24-10 SMU Final: 42-31 SMU
Be interesting to hear how SMU scores 18 in the second half. 6 field goals? 2 tds, 2 2 PT conversions and a safety? 3 tds with 3 missed extra points?
TD,TD 2pt and fg goal

I think this game will come down to our OL play. Having Bryant out is really going to hurt. Hope Jaylon is 100% and Beau Morris plays the game of his life. Going to need both.

Gut call...
SMU 42 UH 38
Houston is going to go down by 17 and claw their way back for the rest of the game. Over the last 30 years SMU doesn’t handle success well. A couple of bad calls, some poor tackling... we drop this one 45-42. I can easily see all the momentum going against us in the 4th and us struggling to survive.
We’re going to score points. Can we get enough meaningful stops, like we did against TCU, to pull this one out. I think we do. I also think I’ll be wolfing down antacids in the 4th.

I will say this continually: both teams stats are fluffed up due to both teams having weak SoS so far. However we do have an okay win in TCU that defeated Tech that made the coogs look like fools. Also ECU put it into OT and Tulane made it a game for them going into the mid 4th quarter. On paper, we should be able to squash them though supposedly one of the OL is out so that could change things drastically. I still think that Mordecai can hit the long ball and scramble very well to punish the defensive pressure. Like someone said, defense has to play great throughout the game and the offense only has to be good on a few plays.

suspect we will have a few surprise plays for them as well as using some different passing options that might surprise them. Just hope our LBs and secondary can handle their QB and passing attack.

Ponies beat Houston 34-31 last time they played in Houston. I see something similar happening this year. I will go with SMU 38 Houston 34

My biggest concern is that TM gets sacked multiple times and can't handle it physically or mentally. I could see the game being lost on turnovers.

Hopefully he has learned when it is best to just throw the ball away and play another down.

I don't want to start this up again, but that was the most impressive thing about Preston on his first pass, passing to the ground because the play was blown up and he didn't take a sack.

So true and his throwing it at the feet of a potential receiver eliminated any possible grounding call or an unnecessary hit on the targeted player. I noticed that immediately

Definitely a concern....I suspect we will be ready and punish them with perimeter screens, running the rock and quick slants over the middle to ensure a clean pocket. Bentley makes the difference due to his explosiveness and energy. He's ready to dominate.
