Assuming Sonny leaves on Tuesday we should move fast - new coach within 1 week. I do not want to hear about forming a committee or hiring an outside consultant. Our AD needs to put on his "big boy pants" and make a quick, but smart decision. We have to not lose most of this recruiting class. Should he make the wrong decision he needs to be sent packing.

Miss State is leading Tenn 35-0 and I would doubt Pastor Turner and Choir Boy LiL Ricky would ever hire a pirate....although they did hire renegade Larry Brown.

Theres the saying if you build it they will come. Well this program was rebuilt and people still choose not to come.

With all due respect. The program was partially rebuilt. Yes, If you are a championship top level winner they will come. example, bball when LB was here. Moody was almost always packed and with well known people. It was the place to see and be seen. Dallas will support a winner.
Fball has not been at a championship top level in many many years. Win the AAC a couple of years and get top 15 rankings and I think people will start coming to support the fball program.
Sadly our coaching situation seems to be wash, rinse and repeat. We consistently lose coaches and have to start over with little continuity. Part of this can be blamed on an inept admin., especially the incompetent AD. HIs claim to pro-active fame is running off loyal bball fans with multiple re-seats.

I will definitely agree with you on the admin. I feel like they are more worried about lining the pockets of SMU instead of building up facilities. I'm not a fan of him and how he handles business. Its just down right annoying.

On to the others.
Coaching will always and continue to be a wash. No matter what, coaches will continue to see SMU as a stepping stone to move to greener pastures. Until SMU decides to invest in the programs we will never get someone to stay. Why stay at SMU seating 32000 and a mediocre locker room and facilities (new indoor stadium is awesome though...but i do miss the big high dive for summers), when you can go to an LSU like school with endless possibilities so long as you produce (their locker room from a few years ago was awesome).

Partially rebuilt - Basketball is true. But you just agreed with me in the same breath. The program is winning and usually in the topic of conversation for conference championship representation. A hell of a lot more than what SMU is used to and people still don't show. When was the last time SMU was ranked prior to the last couple of seasons. Steps need to be made, you don't just go zero to 100....except during the 80's lol. Stadium attendance is HORRIBLE to say the least. Support shouldn't be JUST when you are winning. Dudes on the field feed off the energy and if its real and genuine, its amazing.

Marketing - I have been gone since 2010 and hate that i have to go all the way back to dallas to get anything SMU related. It sucks...went from fort hood, to fort campbell, to fort bragg and i NEVER see anything. SMU needs to get whatever that is removed so things can be sold. I mean amazon is always a choice.

Sidenote: I haven't been on here for years and just got back into it and its good to see the other side of it. I appreciate you and others being passionate enough to talk about the program consistently. I thank you all for your support of the team and your continued support. It does not go unnoticed at all.

Apologize if this is off topic.

Candidates i'll have to look...i haven't seen any at all to be honest. Deion has done wonders, and would be a big draw. Big City...big name...good fit.
SMU took a chance on me. I'll never turn my back on it.

Jim Knowles: Oklahoma State Defensive coordinator. Oh wait...were SMU. Fun to fantasize. We
used to have some great Defenses on the Hilltop circa early eighties. Occasionally I daydream that those days will return until the reality hits that we play in a non power conference. Elite
defensive talent is hard to come by these days though I must admit I've been very impressed with Cincy's D this year. They definitely are the exception to the rule.

Patterson? for real? people are delusional if they think he has any interest in the SMU job. Would love to have him but unlikely he is interested in us.

Assuming Sonny is bailing, it really could be an interesting list of candidates. Is Tom Herman happy with his role in Chicago or would be like another shot at a college HC position? Whoever might succeed Sonny, I do believe retaining Samples should be a priority but would expect Sonny to want him to come with him if in fact he is headed to TCU. Have to wonder whether Sonny would take most of his staff and leave SMU in position to be humiliated in yet another bowl game.

No thanks to Herman. We’d be in the same situation in maybe 2 years.

I liked Herman and he interviewed here before we hired the chad-ster. However IMO he is not a good fit.

I really hope we can retain Samples and possibly Leavitt. Obviously need to dump the OC clown as our O game plan was nonexistent.

Our loss Sat. did little to encourage top level coaches to want to come here.

Stoops, What about Justin Fuente?. Didn't we consider him previously?

Traylor would be a great option but suspect he is totally locked up.
