Re: Paul LayneWow what a big day today! Paul had a really good night overall with a little agitation and high blood pressure a couple times but that is normal when you have nurses moving you around. Paul’s fever never went over 101 and was normal when I arrived today at 8:00 am and has stayed there the whole time. Thank you Cindy Alley for staying with him all night.
At 8:20 the ventilator settings were reduced to the settings as though he is breathing on his own and he did that for three hours without much trouble except coughing and blood pressure would go up but then he would calm himself. About 5 minutes ago they took the tube out of his throat and he is now off the ventilator. Praise God!!! He looks great and is whispering because his throat is sore but we are keeping that to a minimum and will let him rest. Even after that little procedure his BP is back down and all vital signs look great! His white blood cell count was down to 23 today after being 30.5 yesterday. His bed is sitting him up and he has been engaged with his eyes and nods of his head all morning and I am sure he is now relieved he can speak. I have not seen him this strong and alert since before he came in last Monday Paul does still have the pneumonia and we have ruled out any other infections through his negative blood culture results. We did get some unexpected news about heart concerns (no one has mentioned that to us so far) and will follow up more about that later when we understand what all that means. Please pray about that and we have a clear understanding of what this is and how it can be managed. Today we can rejoice in another huge step forward for Paul! Thank you Lord for all your blessings!
Re: Paul LayneAmen. Keep getting stronger Paul.

Re: Paul LayneLast night was not a restful night for Paul. The pain medications were being delivered through other methods and since those methods changed, we got behind the pain instead of in front of it.
Trina was able to confer with the doctors today and get some things figured out. Trina is strong but obviously needs prayer support as well since being an advocate for Paul can be draining. Paul is now resting and exhausted and so he does not want any visitors today. We have been sharing comments and texts and videos that have been sent. He has smiled, laughed and cried because he is so moved by all of you. The support and prayers are overwhelming and much appreciated. Overall Paul is doing ok so far today but it is hard to gauge when he has been uncomfortable. Rehab did come in today and had him sit up so we are now starting that too but it was a little baby step that lasted a few seconds. Again, he is resting now and we are continuing to celebrate the huge steps of yesterday. Tons of love and thanks to Dina Colarossi for staying with and taking care of Paul all night.
Re: Paul LayneThank you for the update. Yes. Trina is strong but it takes a toll. Hugs and prayers for both of them.
And you too. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: Paul LayneHe had a good night last night. He was up often but overall slept well. His heart rate was up over the night but they were able to manage it with medication. Thank you, Amy, for staying with him. I know he loved having his sister there.
His blood pressures have been great and so they prepared him to sit up in a chair!! The doctor said he needs to sit up to start moving and waking up his intestines, and help with the pneumonia and heart. He tolerated it very well. Even was able to rest some while sitting up. One thing he has missed terribly is getting to drink water. But now he can have ice chips and sugar free candy to suck on!! Celebrating each small victory! Thank you to everyone for your steadfast prayers, well wishes and words of encouragement! Keep them coming! #prayersforpaul #PrayersUp
Re: Paul LayneAlex, thank you and many in the Mustang nation who have stepped up to assist PL in his recovery. Thank the lord he is getting better.
Re: Paul LayneGod Bless this great Mustang. What a great guy. Prayers sent. To some that may not be familar with Paul, here is his story.

Re: Paul LayneQuick follow up from yesterday. He had a good day! Paul was able to sit up in the chair for 3.5 hours!! He did sleep and rest in the chair as well. Ice chips are his new best friend. He can have some ice chips every 15 mins and he makes sure to get some at every chance. We ordered some sugar free lollipops (thank you Amazon Prime for same day delivery. LOL) that he can enjoy as well. They will continue having him sit up each day and work towards getting out of ICU! He is working so hard to get stronger! Paul Layne is a rock star!
Paul's vitals were good all night long. He didn't sleep much but he was not in pain or agitated so overall a good night. He made sure he got his ice chips throughout the night too. Thanks, Holly, for staying with him! I am sure he will rest a lot today. He has had some blue discoloration in the fingers on his right hand, which is the arm the arterial line was placed. They have removed the arterial line and have some concern about his fingers. Please pray for blood flow and discoloration to be resolved. They are using nitroglycerin cream to help dilate the blood vessels in the finger. His chest x-ray is improved! And there is more strength behind his coughs which helps to clear his lungs. Breathing exercises are helping him strengthen his lungs too. His abdomen progress is reassuring and he may be able to have small feeding sessions! So many wonderful steps forward in his recovery. At this time, visitors are still be limited to allow him to keep healing, rest and get out of here as soon as possible. So grateful for everyone's understanding and willingness to do what is best for Paul. Thank you for everyone's incredible support, prayers and well wishes! It has been truly beautiful to see and experience. One really special man, Paul Layne, has brought soooo many people together. And now, all those have come together to be there for Paul. #prayersforpaul #prayersup

Re: Paul LaynePaul had a 2nd tube put in his nose that bypasses his stomach. They will start to give him water through this new tube. It was a difficult procedure and very [deleted] him. He has been disoriented & agitated ever since they did the procedure. Please pray for him to be Comfortable tonight and be able to sleep. They are not allowing visitors at this time. We are so thankful for everyone’s prayers!
Re: Paul LaynePaul’s prayer warriors, we have an immediate prayer need. Paul is experiencing some type of episode. He was shaking uncontrollably. At first they thought he might be having a heart attack but his EKG was OK. However his heart rhythm was in atrial fibrillation. There is also concern about his breathing and discussion about possibly intubating him again.
At one point there was a clot showing on his lung (which we didn’t know about at first) and they are going to do a scan to make sure that there is no changes to that. The love support and prayers has been tremendous and we ask each of you to stand in faith with us today for Paul. Please also lift Trina and the family up as it is all quite scary.
