From ACCModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: From ACCI read that there was supposed to be a meeting Tues. night. No info. Did it happen? No on expansion? No news. Just got back into the country last night so not getting a lot of info. TIA.
Re: From ACC
I really have nothing more to add about realignment. Like I said before, wake me up when there is a presser. So much white noise. But one thing I can say is that this post is hilarious. So true!!
Re: From ACCGreat thoughts on why TCU abandoned the series Crazy horse! Well done!

Re: From ACCThere is little doubt in my mind that SMU, if invited to the ACC to compete against the likes of Clemson & Florida State in football, would excel in this era of NIL. Anyone who was around to witness what SMU accomplished in the Pony Express era can attest. Before getting busted, SMU was competing on a level playing field with Texas, Arkansas and a host of other Top 25 programs and beating them at the game they were all playing. As my Texas A$M friend told me...we had to stop you guys because you were paying your 3rd team too much!
I think some of the objection (from too many hypocrites) is that allowing SMU to compete on a level playing field will just drive the cost of football/basketball payrolls up. Pretty sure that is a big part of Sonny Dykes' fear because he claimed to have been a fan of SMU in the Pony Express era.

"They're in something called the American Athletic Conference". Dudes are morons. I wonder if they even watch football.
Re: From ACC
I don't know of any report that a meeting was planned on Tuesday night. The UNC president was still appearing on different media outlets discussing the shooting, campus safety, etc. They shut down the campus on Tuesday.
Re: From ACC
I had to find positive a way to channel my frustration with the situation. Deep down, any SMU fan that has been through the last 40 years knows the difficulties we have faced, and understands the REAL reasons for TCU to "pause" the series. As long as SMU continues to improve, in or out of Power status, the game will be "paused". And that's truly sad. "Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Re: From ACC
That would be the great Kenny "Sugar" Rhea gelding UT's Stan Thomas (who went on to play in the NFL for 4 years). Every so often I scour Youtube to see if anyone has posted footage of that. Hilarious! I want to make a meme out of that. Regrettably, I don't think that game in 1989 was televised. Last edited by PerunaPunch on Wed Aug 30, 2023 11:21 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: From ACCI interviewed Stan Thomas after that game.
Even a couple hours after getting hit, Thomas was still so mad I was scared just talking to him. PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: From ACCI was there for that game. I remember our coach saying we did that in the pros but waited until there was a pileup before doing it.

Re: From ACCIf anyone has seen the media spotlight on the attendance at SDSU this past weekend (they were roasted for their poor attendance), I can assure you that a similar spotlight will be on SMU should there be empty seats - especially on the east side that is on TV. I sure hope that the 11 am kickoff does not prohibit the students from showing up on time. In fact, with the end zone project, where are the students even being seated this year?
Saving grace is that we are not playing Abilene Christian or a total scrub with no draw. I think there will be a good contingent of La Tech fans that may show up with their early season 1-0 optimism. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

So funny and so ignorant all at the same time. And scary that they put these fools on as national media.
Those who run media are themselves fools, so they naturally gravitate to other fools.
"They're in something called the American Athletic Conference". Dudes are morons. I wonder if they even watch football.
Kornheiser is from NYC and definitely cares and knows more about the NFL than CFB. He also knows more about the NBA than college sports. Wilbon is a Northwestern guy who knows little about CBF that is not Big Ten related. Worse than all that is that they always play up to what they think are smart nerdy kids who love sports. That means they love semi-insults and outrageous assertions.
Re: From ACC
I did like Kornheiser's finishing line: "You think your boosters are good? Uh uh, SMU's boosters are GOOD!"
Re: From ACC
I hope you're right about La Tech, but they barely drew an announced crowd of 16,000 last weekend at home. Just prepare to be as roasted online as those of us in the stadium will be.
